All of this talk about taking a QB at four and now even talk about trading up for one has me considering the following.

Under what circumstance would I consider taking a QB at 4 or worse trading up for one.
This is what I have come up with and it makes a little sense.

What if we Traded Romo and Witten to the Broncos? They need a QB and rode the broken down neck of Manning to a SB. Romo and Witten would have a shot at a couple of super bowl rings.

Denver would have to clear some cap room.

Von Miller, Talib and Ward have salaries that are pretty close to Romo and Witten. The cap swap would be close. Over 29 mil for both teams. We would have to figure out a way to sign Miller to a longer contract. Maybe make the deal contingent on doing so. Miller would also have to switch positions from 3-4 outside LB to a DE but heck we need one bad and he could do it. Talib would allow us to cut Carr. Ward would allow us to cut Church. We would be sitting pretty under the cap.

Then we can draft the QB everyone seems to want and not have a 6 mil a year clipboard holder. A young QB to grow with our young O-lineman. We would have to grab a TE as well but we would have filled 3 big holes and opened up a spot for a young QB

MOCK
1. Wentz/Goff QB
2. Hunter Henry TE
3. Tyler Boyd WR
4. Paul Perkins RB
4 comp Javon Hargreave DT

QB Wentz/Goff Moore Showers
RB Mcfadden, Morris, Perkins, Dunbar
WR Dez, Boyd, Williams, Beasley, Butler, Lucky
OT Tron, Free, Chaz Green, Charles Brown
OG Martin, Collins Leary, Looney
C Fred, Looney
TE Hunter Henry, Hanna, Escobar, Swaim

DE Von Miller, Lawrence, Gregory, Mayowa, Irving, Jack Crawford
DT Crawford, Thornton, Mcclain Hargreave, Ryan Russell
LBS Lee, Mcclain, Wilber, Hitchins, Damien Wilson, Gachkar, Nzeocha
S Byron Jones, Tj Ward, JJ Wilcox, Heath
CB Talib, Scandrick, Claiborne, Mitchell, Olatoye

Sounds crazy right? No more crazy then drafting a qb at 4 when you already have one counting over 20 mil a year against the cap and who everyone believes will be here 3 or 4 more years.

I would do this deal and if the QB was legit we could be winning super bowls in a couple of years and this would be a very good, young team.

Would Denver do it? They would have 3 holes to fill but would fill two big ones and Romo could give them a real shot at winning it all over rhe next 2 or 3 years if he can stay healthy.

Check this out - It's "crazy" to prepare for the future at the most critical position on the field.

Give me that player my Joe Fan eyes can see on the field immediately and Go Cowboys!

You do realize that Denver won in spite of the their QB play, don't you? Manning was not very good and it was their defense that won games for them. There is no chance in heck that they would make the trade you are suggesting. Completely ludicrous.

There's only 1 QB i'd trade up to No.1 in the draft to get and he is currently a Jr at Clemson which is Deshaun Watson who will enter next years draft...

Any other QB in this draft im not trading up to #1 to get.. Period

The fans who don't want a QB will be the ones screaming loudest at jerry when we don't have one. Much like the Roy Williams trade, many of the fans blaming jerry for that screw up were the same ones screaming for Jerry to make the trade,
But no worries, in a couple years we can use our entire draft and half of the next years draft, if not more, to get a QB prospect. Then we can struggle through a couple years as he learns the nfl and all will be well. Don't waste a couple of picks now for a guy to hold a clipboard for a couple years while he learns, wait till you have to have him so you pay a much greater price and don't get the teach him anything before you throw him in there, because we all know qb's are more nfl ready coming out these days than ever before with the spread offenses and coaches reading defenses for them
Everyone knows we are just a player or two away from winning the super bowl so why worry about the future when you are on the cusp of winning the super bowl?

No way in hell I trade Von Miller in his prime for a broken down Romo w about 2 years left that he can offer.
They'd get laughed out of the league for that trade.
And Talib on top of that!?!?!?!
Hellllllllll to the nah!

I don't think that is true.

What is more likely is those who do not want a QB will excuse Jones reaching for somebody when we finally desperately need one and never mind how awful they are. There will be years of defending the choice and it will likely bring back bad memories of the Carter era when it was clear as day it was a bad pick from the second the card hit the podium.

That is very possible

HAHA of course it is silly. Almost as silly as drafting a QB at 4 with the goal of sitting him for a few years. So silly it has never happened in the history of the NFL.

If you could get any team to take Romo for a 1st.....you do it. But I don't think your gonna get a team dumb enough to saddle up to 36 year old QB w/ a bum shoulder. Only in Dallas does a team think it can get a 4-5 more years out of a guy that has won nothing to get you to a Super Bowl.

I would go a step farther. If you really want to draft a QB with a no 4 pick then you trade Romo and his huge cap hit and growing for just about anything you can get. You can't have the QB position taking up such a huge percentage of your cap when you have so many needs at other positions.
