When he was drafted I went out and looked him up. I watched a few videos and liked what he brought to the table. He came from a school (Stanford) that routinely did not utilize the TE's in the passing game as a weapon.

In three years he caught 33 passes for 555 yards. He had a total of 5 TD's and a 10.1 yard average. Not the stellar TE for the NFL it would appear. Yet he was a good blocker and just needed a little seasoning to be an NFL TE.

I was disappointed in his contributions the first two years. It seemed like we whiffed on this player.

But this season, due to the injury of Blakey Jarwin, the Cowboys seem to have found a TE that can play.

Games - 6
Rec - 23
Yards - 260
Avg - 11.3
Long - 28
TD - 2
1st - 14
1st % - 60.87
20+ - 3

Now compare this to Blake Jarwin last year.

Games - 6
Rec - 31
Yards - 365
Avg - 11.8
Long - 42
TD - 3
1st - 17
1st % - 54.84
20+ - 8
40+ - 1

I think Jarwin may be more explosive. But Shultz has shown up. I know this season is a disappointment. But this position and player is a find I believe not many of us expected.

Opinions?

I will admit that he has performed well.

After the 1st game I was ready to cut him, but he has shown the last 5 games that he truly deserves his starting role. And I believe the combination of him and Jarwin will be very good next year.

He looks smooth, catching the ball and the yards after. I only watch the games, and only see the views they give, but when you see him on the screen he looks good.

this year theres no silver linings...sorry maybe week 16 something changes but this team from top to bottom have created this mess..DaltonS fumbled remember? yes im, pointing it out im tired of trying to find a silver lining and looking at stats

dak has great stats, so does our WRs at times ive seen some good all over the field but as team as whole its been BAD

the record is all that matters..

so what topic do you not cancel out with that?

exactly:rolleyes:

nearly all thes post trying to find blame or good for any one group, player or coach will always get canceled out by 2-4 last year 8-8 and since mid season last year we have major losing record,,its bad

Dalton Schultz has progressed pretty impressively. He was a 3rd round pick, in 2018.

Didn't get his legs under him, nor gain strength too quickly but came on big, this year.

I can't help but wonder who the starting TE might likely be when Blake Jarwin returns.

If nothing else changes, maybe both of them would be valuable whenever he arrives.

i dont

i say maybe if he was pulling in 7 tds by now we would have another win , maybe 200 more yards..just saying nothing any players has done has been silver lining, its just not good enough..

He is 6th in yards out of TE's
10th in TD's
5th in receptions

and averaging 10+ yards a reception

So, by average, he is a first down every time he touches the ball

sounds like a silver lining

...Dalton will probably end up with the Ravens or Chiefs..lol..

not knocking him just saying no ones done enough , its all relative

If it is all relative, that means 31 teams right now have no silver linings and their players and coaches are bad.

They are not doing enough. There can only be one

no all the ones with losing records and turning the ball over at record rate and leading the league in all the WRONG areas..we are tops in a lot of those..

I can't help you if you cant find a silver lining on schultz's play on the nfc east leading team

I totally forgot what it was like having a TE that could turn a 5 yard route into a 15 yard one.

or one that can run beyond 10 yards and a catch a pass. That td pass he caught on the goal line, took 2 hits, and ran it in, was nice

turning into a helluva TE.
looks more like the guy i watched at stanford.
good player.

Dalton Schultz is an average TE2 who can't get more than the defense gives him. He is literally the same player he was as a rookie, just has more opportunities now.

He's a sloppy route runner, average blocker, and isn't special after the catch. He's simply the product of a system that has several other weapons attracting attention.
