FRISCO, Texas – Don’t worry, my job is to run the tape back so you don’t have to.

Re-watching a Cowboys game can be a lot of fun – but an eight-turnover, 24-point loss in the preseason is not one of those times. It’s a short turnaround before Thursday’s finale in Houston, though, so I wanted to get a quick jump on this one.

Having gone back through it, here are some follow up impressions that really jumped off the screen at me – some good, some bad.

Let’s get to it:\

Missed opportunity by Michael Gallup on the deep ball from Cooper Rush. Gallup did everything right except track the ball. His route running ability took him past Patrick Peterson and Antoine Bethea, but he jumped a tick early and instead of high pointing the ball he couldn’t adjust on the way down. The official could have flagged Peterson for arriving early, but it’s likely the respect for his ability resulted in no flag.

· The more I study Randy Gregory, the more I am convinced that playing the run will not be a problem for him. I do know this: when opponents try and run away from him, if they leave him unblocked, his ability to cover ground on the backside will result in a tackle for loss or no gain. Gregory had one of those moments chasing down Chase Edmonds. Gregory got help from Anthony Brown, DeMarcus Lawrence and Tyrone Crawford on the front side, which is all Gregory needed to run Edmonds down.

I think the silver lining is obviously the defense. Even without Lee and LVE and without any safties, the first team looked great.

They have all preseason... not until the 3rd and 4th units hit the field does it all implode

But let's remember guys its the preseason and we cant judge ANYTHING from the preseason!!!!

Well, let's hope that applies to the offense especially. Maybe they just needed to get all the crap play out of their system. Better to do it in preseason, I suppose.

He has a point in that I don't see the need to carry any more than 5 WR's. I just do not think WR's #6 & 7 are going to be more helpful than two extra players at other positions such as the DL and the secondary.

I've enjoyed watching the defense. It has potential to be very good, depending upon the players we pick up after cuts. I'm not banking on getting ET either. A few under the radar acquisitions could go a long way.

Actually the defense looked fast and was able to generate a lot of pressure. The defense suddenly looks like they have some swagger. I know it's just pre season but if this continues things will be looking up for Dallas. I am going to say that I think Richards has a lot to do with this turnaround even though he is the DB coach I think he motivates these defensive players.

Rush also missed Beez. It was a td waiting to happen. Had his man beat and was wide open.

Lenoir looked so sad after that second fumble that cost a td. Thought he was gonna cry. Up until then he made a huge case for himself. Now I am not sure how the staff will take it.

If they keep 7 WR then we will have to be short elsewhere.

Lillard hits hard and plays hard. I like him. And Wilson is still starting caliber to me. We have just come into a lot of talent now on LB. LVE is gonna be a rookie and play like one this year. Hopping he does make some plays. Jaylon will be amazing for us this year. Thomas playing well also.
Gonna be a interesting start to the year. Hoping we don’t flop on Offense.

Can we just forfeit the Houston Game??

Didn’t they cancel it last year from the flooding.
So just cancel it this year due to lack of interest.

Well they did not want or could not make the trip here. So we can’t make the trip there this year

Well if WR 6 is Thompson then yes there is value. Tavon is too small to be a true deep threat and it looks like he’s at his best getting the ball in space and creating after the catch. Thompson would be our only true WR deep threat ala Brice Butler.

Plus Thompson was a top 5 deep threat last year on the Bills of all teams. If he can do it there he’ll be fine here.

There were two silver linings in my humble opinion. ..

1. No injuries

2. 1st team defense looks awesome

Austin, Gallup, Beasley, Williams and Hurns. Buh bye, worthless Lance Lenoir.

Silver lining? We saw our next head coach actually hold people accountable and know the pulse of the team and know the situation.

agreed starting D is looking really good and if they can get safetys figured out this could be a daunting type pressure D with a decent back end to compliment..

You're absolutely right if we go injury free. We don't need more than 5.
