If Romo were gone the year, I would think they might possibly do that.

But, there will be a weekly countdown, well, that is one more week down, only X weeks until #9's return. You know, just like last year where there were games to be won but being conservative cost them some.
At this point, I think Romo's a better quarterback than Dak, despite the fact I have been a Dak Prescott fan since he was in college. That said, I think we learned last year that game planning around Romo's return is foolish and no longer something that should in any way limit or impact today's thinking. Assume he won't be back, and game plan accordingly. If he does return, worry about it then.

It's real easy to say this isn't a Super Bowl roster but year after year we see teams come from nowhere to be a SuperBowl team.

Dallas was a Super Bowl contender with Romo.

All it would take is Prescott being able to run this offense successfully, which is entirely possible, and for a decent pass rush to emerge,,, also entirely possible.

You have some experience with that, do you? :muttley:

My apologies on that.your picture is the spitting image of a guy in the Fort Worth area that wants to dress up like HR Puffinstuff and get beaten over the head with a pillow case of soap bars by a Boy Scout troop.

My mistake

Romo is only out for the first few games and we have a serviceable backup in the interim. There is no need to panic over Romo's injury. The accelerated education of Dak is a good thing in the long run. Everything is still possible. :)

I don't know why but I clapped when I read this

That actually is a valid concern. I think they'll go into the season with the same philosophy, though with more focus on the run than we saw during preseason. That said, my concern is what will happen if Dak throws one or two interceptions. Will they then go back into the shell offense where they run, run, dink, run run, dunk, etc. rather than remain aggressive.

In college, Dak could throw an interception and then come back and play awesome the rest of the game. I think the Cowboys coaches have to go into each game letting Dak be aggressive like they did in preseason and they have to accept that it may mean an interception here or there, but the end result would still be worth it.

They should be accustomed to this having been around Room for so long.

And if Romo is only out 4 - 6 games the Cowboys can play a slimmed down playbook without the entire league adjusting to it. When he is healthy again Romo will be able to use the entire playbook from day one and opposing DCs will have to adjust to that.

Dak isn't going to take Romo's job, but in a short stretch like this is could be both a trial by fire and a great learning experience for Dak.

Romo is out for 10 games most likely. The season will be over before Romo plays. Then, does it make sense to bring Romo back as starting qb?

Silver lining - TE's will have a banner year -with all the check downs Dak will be throwing. Same with Beasley in the slot, career year. I think Romo should be back after the bye.
Dak was a late 4th round pick, Im still not sure what to think, hes looked fantastic, but its PS. About game 3 when there is film on him, and teams really start to game plan for him. Both the first and second picks are getting to sit and learn, but we are throwing pick 135 ( just a guess) in to start due to need and poor planing.
My fear is he will struggle and go into a shell, hopefully not the david carr shell.
He needed a year to watch and learn, its such a bummer he is being forced into action so early ! Good luck young man ! Hope you beat the odds, but not counting on it ...

I agree with that in general, but #1 - Dak doesn't look like a rookie in his first year but David Carr clearly did and #2 - David Carr went to bed dreaming about playing with our OL, Dez and Witten, and a RB like Zeke.

Russell Wilson did not go into a shell as a rookie. He was ready. Granted, he wasn't asked to do that much with SEA dominant defense. But he also did not have a dominant offensive line and WR like Dak does. I see a lot of similarities with Dak and Russ in their rookie year readiness.

I hope they let him play aggressive as you mentioned. I'd hate for the Cowboys to neuter him and turn him into a mini-Weeden/Cassell. If the coaching staff tries to turn him into a game manager, then they deserve to be replaced. The guy has the tools to throw the ball and he is looking like the future, and you will never get far in football playing scared. Let the guy make his mistakes, but don't force him to play it 'safe'.

I want to believe it's true, but my eyes tell me a different story. I see an aging QB whose body has weakened and become more susceptible to damage.

I mean, over his last 82 pass attempts, he has now suffered a broken vertebrae and two breaks of his clavicle. I truly hope there's some pixie dust we can sprinkle to fix things moving forward, but it is proving increasingly more difficult to keep him on the field.
