We haven't done much to the secondary, in terms of drafting a player. Last time we really tried to do anything with that was with Pat Watkins. And he is still a 2nd day pick. You look at our problems with in our wr corps and its the same thing.
Last time we picked a receiver in the first day (not just the first round) was Antonio Bryant.
we're hurting because of some pretty bad drafts.
2003 was a critical draft, and i think parcells did pretty well for us. We still have Newman, Witten, and James. Two pro bowlers.
2004 was a wash. All we have left from there is Patrick Crayton, who simply isn't a second receiver. A third at best. Definitely a steal in the 7th round though.
2005 should have been better given we had two first round draft picks, but we still have 6 players from the draft on the roster. 4 of them starters. Two pro bowlers.
2006 was a wash too. Bobby Carpenter needs to step up this year, and BADLY. Fasano needs to become more consistent when he is out there. And Hatcher is doing pretty well. Pat Watkins needs to become a steady producer out there like Hatcher.
2007 isn't doing much for us either. Still waiting for Spencer to do something, he is still sitting behind Greg Ellis. Nick Folk was just the steal of that draft for us. And hopefully Alan Ball becomes the player that Newman thinks he will.
WR Corps
Terrell Owens
Chad Johnson/Roy Williams/Anquan Boldin/1st Round receiver
Terry Glenn
Patrick Crayton
Sam Hurd
Corners
Terence Newman
Adam Pacman Jones
Anthony Henry
First Round cornerback
Alan Ball
I think getting Chad Johnson and Pacman Jones can bring us up to speed at the positions. And I would still suggest drafting a receiver high in 2009. Just drafting a wideout at this point is too risky. And Whether we get Jones or not we still need to draft a corner. Doing both just leaves us stacked at both positions.
Draft Kevin Smith in the 2nd or third, to back up Barber, and with the other first day pick you sign another receiver.
We're good to go on the O-Line, Linebacker Corps is stacked, people think our defensive line is good enough (I might disagree), we've got a qb, we've got tight ends, and we might be able to move Henry to safety if our corners are productive.
