Imagine this team with Keuchly, Carter, and Lee in this new 4-3 Tampa 2 defense. Wowza!

Kiffin has never had a top pick at SLB, it's not an important position in his defense.

It would be awesome, but hopefully Morris is a blue chipper for years.

I hate using the Kiffin never had this, this coach never had that. Do you think the Giants ever say we have enough pass rushers and DT's?

Right. I don't like it either. All that means to me is he managed without it. It doesn't mean he couldn't use it and make his defense even better.

I agree. Though the same is true when we say that a particular defense does not require blue chip players at a particular position. The reality is, good coaches figure out how to take the best advantage of their best talent, and they have lots of options for doing so at their disposal.

And don't forget keeping your 2nd round pick.

Could have strengthened the OL with Kelechi Osemele. Could have gotten your CB if you had to with Casey Hayward. Peter Konz was there to give us a real center. Kendall Reyes would be a disruptive DT for us this year. A lot of good options that would have made this team better.

Who takes TNew's place?

I think what is forgotten is Jerry's past thoughts on the 4-3 LB, now hopefully he has changed but it was pretty well known back in the day that Jerry didn't value the position when it came to paying big salaries there.

I do wonder what his stance will be when it comes contract time for Carter and Lee, and to add another star LB to that crew really makes me wonder if we would've kept all 3 of them long term anyway. I know its ignored cause we don't know at this point, but Jerry does value some positions more than others and he hasn't shown he overly values a 4-3 LB.

Kuechly was taken 9th, that 2nd rounder would still have been gone in a trade up to get him.

If I look back at past Cowboy's drafts, the last thing I think is "what if they had just gotten Keuchly".

My thoughts would be:

2012
Why didn't they pick OG Ben Jones in the 4th round?
Why didn't they pick Cordy Glenn in the 2nd round?

2011
Why didn't they trade up and take Will Rackley in the 3rd over Arkin in the 4th?

2009
What if they didn't trade for Roy Williams.
What if they traded all picks for Alex Mack?
What is they just traded up 3 spots to draft Max Unger?
What if they stayed put and drafted Andy Levitre at #51?

1998
What if they drafted Randy Moss in 1998 and subsequently
didn't give up 2 #1s for Joey Galloway in 2000?

Again, no 4-3 linebackers entered my mind.

not only that, but again, great 4-3 defenses don't usually have 3 great LBers. The Giants had nothing but averege players when the won their 2 SBs. The Eagles under Jim Johnson had Trotter and scrubs. TB had Derrick Brooks and scrubs. The best example I could think us were the early Ravens teams that ran a 4-3 that had Lewis, Boulware and Sharper, but even then Boulware was a LB that lined up at DE on passing downs.

It's all about the front 4 in a 4-3.
