This video from the Rich Eisen Show says pretty much what I have been saying for 2 decades. This Dallas franchise has NOT been the same since Micheal Irvin/Charles Haley. When I say this, I get ripped, by fellow Cowboys fans, for being a "Cowboy-hater".

What made Jimmy Johnson a great coach? He had a football mind but mixed in was he degree in Psychology. Jimmy got in the head of his players getting them ready for clutch plays/down. Tom Landry was also the same. Both coaches knew skill alone was not good enough to win Superbowls, but get his team MENTALLY prepared for situation plays.

Jerry doesn't want coaches like that because they'll challenge him, too. He hires guys who have never been an NFL head coach (Campo, Switzer, Gailey, JG), or older guys desperate for another chance to be an NFL head coach (Wade, MM). The only time he bit the bullet was Parcells. That his team was coming off three straight 5-11 seasons and he wanted his stadium referendum to pass was hardly coincidental. He needed to make a splash hire to appease the locals.

Do you think either Jimmy or Tom Landry would've accepted the job under McCarthy's terms? He was told we're keeping the OC from his predecessor - whether he liked it or not - Moore wasn't going anywhere. God only knows what other stipulations he had to accept if he wanted the job.

Things were different in the 90's. It is an entirely different NFL now. Much harder to win and dominate now. The Cowboys aren't doing as bad as people act that they are when you compare them to the other 31 teams. 12 of the 31 have never won a Super Bowl and a bunch have long droughts going. The Chiefs should have won last year, but they didn't because their 2 offensive tackles were out for the Super Bowl and they couldn't protect Mahomes. I suspect that Brady is going to lose this week because their right tackle is hurt. Who knows what will happen in Green Bay tonight? Anything can happen, the odds are against all teams.

What they are talking about is leadership. The Cowboys have lacked that since Aikman. The leader is the guy who doesn't necessarily have to be liked by his teammates but they better respect him. Who is the guy on the Cowboys who will get in someone's face after they commit their 10th holding penalty of the season? A leader doesn't worry about the guy not liking him. He worries about winning. He worries about getting better. He lets the player know that when they screw up they are letting the entire team down.

Irvin would get loud on the sidelines. Aikman would yell at guys in the huddle. There are guys who will not tolerate bad play by their teammates. Brady yelled at his offensive linemen a lot, and his receivers. I am not saying a leader has to be a yeller. But he has to be a guy who makes it clear that mistakes hurt the team and cannot be tolerated.

Romo was not that guy. Dak doesn't appear to be that guy either. Hopefully Parsons will develop into that guy for the defense. But whoever it is has to lead by example too.
