There are times when I think I'm starting to figure the world out, and then something like this happens. I don't understand incidents like this and I don't understand people's mindsets.

It's a crazy and dangerous world that has completely unpredictable events that happen nonstop. That's scary to me and heartbreaking. 22 years old, unreal.

I think I might have seen one or two of her cover videos on YT before she went on TV and became more famous, but wow this was shocking. Have to say it is a shame she was so young, RIP Christina.

What is freakin going on in 2016?

That's a valid question.

Society has made such progress over the past 100 years when it comes to fighting disease, making sure everyone has enough to eat, technological advances, reducing the possibility of another world war... But the whole gun violence thing here in the US is depressing.

Sorry to hear of this...

The first thing I thought of was the Rebecca Shaeffer murder of about 25 years ago now.

I remember that all too well Michael. Rebecca would had been big had she not been sadly killed in the prime of her life. As really stalking is such a dangerous thing. As people need to be aware of it. Maybe in memory of Christina go through pat downs and metal dectactors in the near future. To prevent something like this from ever happening again.

When the internet was first opened to the public, I said then that it will be one of the most revolutionary and dangerous milestones in our modern history. From our constantly growing dependence on it, to the inside access to most people's personal lives, both famous and non-famous, via social media and the media as well, to the erosion of privacy and personal security, life is a lot more exposed and dangerous now.

The problem is that the internet is still in its infancy and the technology behind it is so outdated and limited that security is nothing more than an illusion and fallacy at this point, something to make everyone sleep better at night. The technology behind the internet needs a major upgrade, but at this point, it would be easier to start over with a completely new internet than it would be to try to upgrade the old one.

Make no mistake, the internet has returned our safety and security back to the levels they were long ago where people had to protect themselves rather than rely on others to do it for them. Unfortunately, most people are too used to relying on other people to do that for them. As a society, we are over-exposed and extremely vulnerable at every moment of our lives now. The sooner everyone realizes that, the better off everyone will be.

The biggest problem here is, she was popular, but not on the level of a Kardashian. Kardashian's have protection around them at all times, I doubt Grimmie ever felt she needed to be protected much due to her popularity not being at an extreme.

A YouTuber I watch often said it best: They don't have the resources to have protection around them at all times to prevent something like this. So they have fans rushing up to them in grocery stores or anywhere in public. There's really not much you can do to prevent something like this though, and that really sucks.

Agree on the whole security thing.

You understand better than I, but I get what you posted.

The think is all the security in the world won't stop someone who truly is bound and possessed to shoot someone.

September 6, 1949, Howard Unruh– a WWII veteran, walked through his neighborhood in Camden, NJ and shot & killed 13 people he either didn't know or barely knew.

That was the start.

Yep. If you can't control one facet of the problem then the only thing you can do is pat-downs and metal detectors.

Right now only a small portion of society has to go through a metal detector on a daily basis... How long before each of us has to do it on a daily basis?

Never heard of her, but this is just crazy. Not a gun issue, an issue with crazy. Can only hope the big data/predictive analytics world will give us the power to start identifying these types of threats in the future.

Really sorry for her, her family and fans.

I don't think her level of talent has anything to do with how senseless the crime is, but it's tragic. She had a lot ahead of her.

So, the plaza bans concealed firearms. But doesn't have metal detectors and no pat downs? Look, I get it, that takes a little extra time to get everyone in. But what is the point of banning firearms if you're going to check anyone for firearms?

I didn't pay attention to the location of this shooting until after the nightclub shooting in Orlando last night. What's going on in Orlando?
