Long time lurker, seldom post....

But, IMO, the single most important hire of this whole off-season is the

DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE!!!!!

Hire someone to fix this defense!!!! We have some of the talent needed, they just need good coaching. I cannot tell you how badly the Arizona game bothered me..still does, in fact. I felt for sure we were going to lose the filthydelphia game at the end as well. NO CONFIDENCE whatsoever in our D.

We have the offense and the weapons to score BIG. But we have got to fix the D, or we are looking at 9-7 next year (if there is even a next year!).

This This This.

This IMO will determine how well JG does with the cowboys.

It is very important that we get the right guy in here to be DC.

If we don't, it won't matter much.

Please, Please, Please do not let it be Paul P that stays on as DC.

Actually, I think its.

DC - 1
Replace some players - 1a

Its that close. Who knows what PP could do with better players.
I still want a new DC but who knows.

I agree. While I would prefer a good 4 -3 DC, Jerry is already on record saying he is committed to the 3 -4. That being the case I really hope Capers contract is up and he is tired of the frozen tundra and would rather play half the games in a dome LOL.

I agree to an extent, but weren't these virtually the same players from a good defense last year? A couple need to go, but IMO, it all goes back to coaching.

I think that is certainly the most important piece the coaching portion of this offseason. Getting a quality DC is absolutely necassary.

The biggest upgrade needed, overall, this offseason has to be the offensive line though. At least that's my opinion on what we needed to put a lot of attention and focus on.

DC- Priority 1
DB- Priority 1A
OL- Priority 1B

I rank defensive backs ahead of the OL because we still managed 30 points a game with a bad line. Our defense looked horrible all year and the backfield was then main reason. If the defense improves and can hold teams to 20 points or hopefully less and the offense continues to do what it has and hopefully improve, then you have a winning formula!

Wade's defense didn't look that good last year; that's why Wade finally got the boot. Having said all that, the real culprit is Jerry's poor drafting. If he worked for any other owner, he would have been fired years ago and never have gotten any kind of job with any other NFL owner either.

My big concern with Garrett's hiring is that Jerry simply wouldn't give him the authority needed to run this club the way he should. Garrett must be able to hire and fire any coach he wants--period. If he can't do that, then Garrett should refuse to accept the job & seek out other teams for an interview. Frankly, I haven't liked Jerry's tenor ever and certainly not since Garrett took over as HC.

I wonder how much better this defense will be organically, with a real T.C under a detail oriented coach???
Personally I think alot of the Cowboys lack of player development and underachieving on both sides of the ball can be attributed to Camp Cupcake.

I think we really just need a FS and a 2009 Jenkins and the secondary will be fine. I would put the emphasis after that to the Oline replacing Davis and Columbo. Then I want an inside LB to fill in for Lee and James.

But that is the players, I agree wholeheartedly on a new DC!

It all starts and ends with coaching.

The entire defensive coaching staff should be gone today along with the offensive line coach.

We have enough talent to compete for a Super Bowl. We do not have the coaches.

You should be a doctor with diagnosis skills like that...

To the topic - yes DC is important, but Knute Rockne couldn't get this motley crew of grabasses to play competent cohesive defense. We need to be aware that we need both a competent leader as well as more skilled players to fix this defense. Putting AJ Foyt behind the wheel of this AMC Pacer of a defense isn't going to win any race...
