This thread is about my all time favorite musician.

Paul McCartney.

The greatest south paw bassist to ever grace the pages of musical history.

Please allow me to honor the late Linda McCartney, Paul's first wife who was an unknown but profound influence on Mr. McCartney's early career as a solo artist as He broke away from The Beatles.

I have to tell you, in the late 1970's if had to use my gut feeling about who would have been the last surviving, yet most successful beatle, I would have guessed Paul McCartney.

I dont say that because thats how it's turned out, but because that was my gut feeling.

My first memories of Paul McCartney are from Wings at the speed of sound which were indelibly marked upon my mind at the age of 10 when I heard... you better listen to what the man said...

Man I've got good memories from my child hood, and Paul McCartney is apart of them.

Paul McCartney has recently decided that the time is right to release, open the vault, or allow the licensing of His music to be used by the media and/ or advertising companies for marketing purposes.

I personally enjoy the creative use of famous musicians work in the media, and now some of the greatest music of our generation will be worked into our culture from a different angle.

After a couple of very successful world tours from Sir Paul McCartney in the last few years, I look forward to a refreshing and rekindling of the work of one of our greatest bassist.

This thread is for those of you who have some great memories inspired by Paul McCartney.

Some people want to fill the world with silly love songs. I'm glad Paul was one of them, simply because he is soo good at it.

Feel free to express your thoughts about the most enduring Beatle in history.

I leave you with this...

Someone's knockin' at the door... somebody's ringin' the bell...
Someone's knockin' at the door... somebody's ringin' the bell...
Do me a favor
Open the door and let'em in... yeah yeah...

I'm fortunate enough to have grown up influenced by the Beatles...saw them on Ed Sullivan..I remember the entire family gathered around the TV.

Sir Paul is a great bass guitarist...he's one of the few bass players who's bass lines can be SUNG...they are that melodic...although the song is kinda goofy, listen to the bass line in "With a Little Help From My Friends" .

I own a Rickenbacker 4003 because of McCartney.

But his talent doesn't end with his bass playing...in his hey-day, he was a great great vocalist with the range to sing ballads, like Yesterday/Michelle/Let It Be...to screamers like Why Don't We Do It In The Road/Helter Skelter/Oh Darling/I'm Down...

He's a decent piano player...a good guitar player (particularly on acoustic) and played drums in all the tracks on the original McCartney album...and Band On The Run...

And of course, then there's his song writing ability...

Pretty impressive...

When did Ringo die???

That is my first memory too. I can remember hearing the words “you better listen to what the man said” while making a ceramic ashtray in summer school. I was 9 and it is one of my first complete memories of my childhood To this day when I hear that song, I can vividly remember the weather, activities, kids around me, smells, etc. That song gives me a feeling of being 9 again for just a few minutes.

That's kind of interesting. I, too, have a very vivid memory like yours. It was a sunny August afternoon around 3pm, I was at Twin Rivers miniature golf on beltline Rd in Richardson Tx. I was with my big brother and little sister. The sights and sounds of video games filled the air, until Paul McCartney came over the music system and my 10 year old mind focused on " you better listen to what the man said". For some reason it seemed to create a sense of joy and peace for my little adolesent mind as I glanced up into the sky as puffy white clouds rolled by.

Every time I hear that song it takes me back to that day and it still gives me a sense of peacefulness.
