First time in nfl history that the leader in qb rating for the season didn't win mvp. So apparently historically the voters do put stock into it. this year they fleeced romo out of his mvp

2013 MVP Peyton Manning finished SECOND to Nick Foles in QB rating (Manning @ 115.1 - Foles @ 119.2). Manning also finished SIXTH in QB rating (99.9) during his 2009 MVP season - behind Drew Brees (109.6), Brett Favre (107.2), Phillip Rivers (104.4), Aaron Rodgers (103.2), and Ben Roethlisberger (100.5). Peyton also finished FIFTH during his 2008 MVP season. Manning was also SECOND to Steve McNair in the 2003 season when they were Co-MVPs.

You're getting passer rating confused with qbr. 2013 peyton manning qbr was 82.9 which led the nfl while nick Foles was a 69. In 2009 peyton manning led the league in qbr with a 82.8 higher than 2nd place drew brees with an 80.4. In 2008 Peyton again led the league in qbr with a 79.3. Qbr is a much much more accurate listing of how well a qb played than passer rating because it takes into account sacks fumbles and negative plays by the quarterback. In 2014 Tony Romo 82.7 led the league in qbr and lost mvp to Aaron Rodgers 82.6. Like I said first time in history a qb with a lower qb rating won mvp over the #1.

that could be due to romo lost to GB? did Rodgers play better in that one game? They were close in the qbr, so that game may have decided it.
Also Rodgers has been more celebrated ever since he won a SB.
I think Romo deserved some type award for playing with bad back the pain , fear of inuring it again, playing thru the 2nd back injury and then playing as well as he did in most games.
He also led the team to 12-4 record and the playoffs [rodgers went 1 game further] .
So for all that I give Tony the colonel52 award for MVP /QB, for 2014 ! So now Tony is a MVP !
The colonel52 award for MVP is actually more prestigious than the one Rodgers got.
And Tony is the first one to receive it.

MVP voting is done after week 17 games, so the result was already picked before any playoff games were played. They announce it the week before the superbowl but the result has already been voted on 3 weeks prior.

It's as you said. Of the last ten MVPs, seven were QBs and each DID have the highest QBR rating in the year they won the award.

Since the QBR rating system only came into existence in 2011 it obviously had no influence on MVP voters prior to that year (though the ESPN site has QBR stats going back to 2006). I haven't seen much that would indicate the stat influences MVP voters any more than traditional stats like Passing Yards or Yards Per Attempt.

In the end, MVP voting is not much different from the Miss America pageant in it's subjectivity.

I put more stock in accuracy, TD:INT ratio, TD%, and INT%

QB rating to me is a worthless stat that is very flawed.

so it is for the regular part of the season, Romo should have maybe won, but Rodgers is very popular, and sometimes it is a popularity contest.
With th back surgery and then to go out and play 15 of 16 games and take the hits he did, that deserves a award just for that.

You evidently don't really know what is factored into the rating formula. The very things you put more stock into, plus yards per attempt, all are factored into the formula. In other words, this "worthless stat" is determined by the things that you believe measures a qb's effectiveness.

QBR and QB Rating are different stats.

There are QBs that have played flawless games but didn't get a perfect QB Rating.

It's a flawed stat anyway you want to look at it.

Rodgers
Luck
Manning
Romo
Roethlisberger
Brady
Wilson
Ryan
Flacco
Brees
Rivers
Newton
Stafford
Bradford
Tannehill
Manning
Bridgewater
Carr
Palmer
Foles

Wilson is way to high. As a QB he isn't that great, his team wins cause of great defense and a beast run game. He has almost lost games but lynch and defense bails him out time and time again

Yet none of those guys listed after him are better then him. Think what you want but the truth is he is something like 13-1 against Super Bowl winning QBs. That's not all defense.
