SI's Tony Pauline Senior Bowl Day 1 Report....

Well...we will have to see if he keeps it up during all of the practices and in the game.

Normally if they are a great now, not so great later kind of prospect it will show during the week or the game.

However it is hard not to be impressed with watching him a little. Might be one of those players that just needs a good O-Line coach or motivated. Who knows.

Concerning Jordan. I have been on record as saying I really don't like the idea of taking a 3-4 DE with the 9 spot, but if we did, he was the one that intrigued me the most.
Also like moffit later (not sure where he is projected) due to his ability to play both OG and C.

I gotta say... He is active BIGTIME on the field.

He may end up being the best DE in this group.

The thing about Fairley is

A) He is a knucklehead

B) He doesn't go 100% every down

Also I love Dareus but he is basically 1 demensional.

Cam Jordan looks like an impace player who can cause all kinds of disruption.

I just wish he played in the SEC.

But the guy bursts off the line like a OLB.

If we're just going to ask him to hold his blocks though than Dareus is a better fit.

The good news is we will get a good player in this draft unless we completely screw it up somehow.

No way I take a 3-4 DE at #9. I trade down first. 3-4 DEs can be had for a lot less value. This is the reason so many teams are switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4. 4-3 linemen are harder to find than 3-4 linemen (with the exception of a dominating NT) I WOULD take a 3-4 NT at #9 if a good one was to be had.

Well just to be clear, I don't want to take one at 9 either, but what you or I want is not really too important to what the cowboys might want to do.

SO if they were to take a 3-4 DE at the 9 spot...he would be the one I would like the best.

Hope that makes sense.

I agree with you that if you want the guy, trade down some and still get him, especially with some teams below us that we know will want QBs.

I think that is why I like him. He seems to be a player that be a run stopper but also a pass rusher. And he does not seem to have question marks as far as off the field and he seems to also have a motor that does not quit.

I actually think he will improve a great deal in the pros. I think he has a high ceiling.

Of course I don't work for an NFL team as a scout nor do I pretend to be a draft/scout guru either...he just seems to me to be the guy with the best all around skill set, best motor, character with room to improve.

But even with that, I would not really want to draft him at 9 as I think we could get him a few picks later. Only thing is, if he starts to climb a good deal in the draft, maybe he would not last much past 9.

It is almost as if I ate a bunch of fiber this morning and have diarrhea of the mouth right now as I am rambling on and on.

TP anyone.

Brewers biggest problem is he played in College Football Siberia at IU.

To me his biggest problem is he fails to display leadership and doesn't play with aggression. Playing at Sonoma State didn't hurt Larry Allen. I think the kid has the physical tools, but he has to overcome his wussy personality. (and injuries of course, which I think can probably be partially attributed to his wussy personification)

I'm with you on Fairley. I don't like him. A talented guy who doesn't always give effort. Fat Albert anyone?

As for Cameron Jordon, he would have to put on 10-15lbs to become a 3-4DE. I don't think he has the speed to be a 4-3 DE.

I'm still struggling to understand why everyone has Carimi pegged as a late first/early second prospect.

Maybe I'm way off, but I think the Outland Winner who replaced Joe Thomas as a redshirt freshman who you could probably plug in as a Day 1 RT would be valued more than that.

I don't think he'll ever be flashy and he isn't as good as a Thomas, Long or Okung, but he looks like a guy you just plug in and start for the next 10 years.

He's a guy whose stock could really rocket with a solid Senior Bowl.

I love Carimi. My favorite prospect in the draft based on our needs.

I don't know why he's graded so low now either.

No one can convince me that Anthony Davis has better technique, better experience, played vs better competition, works harder, etc, etc.

NE takes Carimi, slides Vollmber to RT and they win a couple rings. No one complains.

I was looking for another RT prospect though in case we can't get Carimi and I hope Brewster continues to shine all week.

If Brewer goes off he could be mid 2 to 3 type guy (Loadholt).

Brewer is one of those guys that flashes now and then but is not consistant.

If the Cowboys take a DE at #9, it needs to be a player that can hold up at the point of attack but also be a better pass rusher than the current options on the roster. I think Fairley or Jordan best meet these criteria and it would be interesting to have either player line up next to Ratliff. However, Jordan currently seems to be the more realistic option at #9.

Why do you guys keep saying Carimi is graded so low. 1'st round to early 2nd is low?

Jordan at 9 will be looked at as a steal 5 years from now. Mark my words.

I agree. I really really like Jordan.

Before you agree with him, you might want to be aware he picks a player to say this about every single week. :laugh2:

Actually, it did. A first ballot HOF talent fell to the 2nd round.

And I would be curious as to how you know about Brewers' supposed leadership or personality. Do you personally know him or people who have played with him, or are you just regurgitating something you read off of some free online webstie written by some unknown guy who hasn't set foot on the IU campus a day in his entire life.

I mean it didn't hurt him as a player. I thought that is what you were implying.

And I can't see i'll be disappointed with Brewer at 9 based on what I saw today. Haven't seen much/heard much of him prior to today but he was ballin out there.

Are there any 3-4 DEs in the league that are considered steals being drafted in the top 10? If there is, I can't think of one. The closest 3-4 DE in the league that I think could be classified that way would be Jay Ratliff who was drafted in the 7th round and doesn't actually play 3-4 DE anymore. I said earlier, that I WOULD draft a 3-4 NT in the top 10 without thinking twice about it if I thought he was that good. 3-4 DEs, not so much.

I agree with this. I suppose you could consider Nagta one, but that's a different sort of beast. If there was a Nagta in this draft, I wouldn't hesitate to take him at 9.

Our problem is that this is a pretty crappy draft class for top teir talent at the positions where top teir talent is already hard to find.

If the Cowboys LOVES Jordan but he's rated # 15-20 on the board you still may want to bite the bullet and take him because it takes just ONE other team to like him as much to draft him ahead of you and you'll regret trading down just to pick up an extra 3rd or 4th rounder which may turn out to be a nobody.

He was pass blocking with 1 arm right? Because thats a common move..

It was pass blocking.. I don't know how common it is because I didn't see anybody else do it.

Now, I"ve seen tackles trying to reach with one arm in a futile attempt to hold a defensive player that just blew by them, but that wasn't the case with Brewer..

He's being graded late 1-2 now.

Davis went 11, Otah and Chrilus went 17-19.

I think he's just as good if not better than all of them.
