Sitting back on defense

Go back and watch the Rams game and our first game against Philly. We weren't just sitting back on defense pre snap. We were there, lining up over center with the double A gap look, then sending guys or backing out. We were out there confusing the other teams qb pre snap. Sending pressure from everywhere. We won the turnover battle in both of those games as well.

The eagles when we played them the first time still had alot of weapons. The rams also have alot of weapons. Yet we dominated those games defensively. Then you have last nights game, and the bears, jets, bills games. Games against inferior offenses where we just sat back 7-8 yards off the ball with our Linebackers and let them pick us apart. Pretty much telling the opposing qb what was coming.

Essentially against good teams we played aggressive, against bad teams we played scared? Is that not the dumbest thing you've ever heard? Thats either poor coaching, stupidity, stubbornness or all three. Hell the one or two times we did blitz wentz last night we forced him into poor throws. There was 0 reason to sit back last night when only one guy on that offense can beat you (and he broke a rib) but we did. We had no business giving up 400 yards to that team.

I feel like Richard or marinelli is trying to make this the "cover 3" defense the seahawks used to run back in the day. Only difference is we don't have the playmakers on defense those teams had. Another example of frustration, poor coaching and not being able to scheme to the players strengths.

I made a comment about that during the game. I hate that this defense is and has been for awhile reactive instead of aggressive.

It's clear the entire defensive coaching staff needs to be shown the door.

The entire Eagle game I got the feeling the Eagles offense stopped themselves more than the Cowboys stopped them.

The philosophy is stupid and I don’t agree with it but I understand it.

ALL football coaches coach to minimize risk. And if you think you don’t need to blitz or do exotic things against a lesser team then you may be less inclined to open yourself up to risk. Theoretically you’ll give up no big plays but may not make any big plays yourself.

Against better teams coaches feel they can’t sit back or they’ll surely lose. Watch the 2006 game vs Indy. It’s my favorite defensive game plan EVER.

Watching us lineup eight yards off receivers in zone coverage and giving teams 2nd and 3 is why our coaching staff needs to go.

Eliminate the big play but wear out the defense.

Why was this defensive staff not shown the door after last season? We fired our OC yet the defensive staff stayed the same.

This defense is god awful at forcing turnovers and this bend but don't break philosophy makes every QB we face look like all pros. Even bums like Darnold and Trubisky.

Your spot on! Pathetic soft zone most of the game vs a team with no speed and very little talent at receiver. In the 4th quarter when their rookie back scored easily our safety was 7 yards deep in the end zone instead of even with the LBers. He could have filled the hole if he wasn’t so far off the ball. Soft D on the goal line. Ridiculous!!!!!

The 8 yard pass over the middle seems to always be open. The only time they don’t take that is when the back is even more open. Which is every time.

Oh yeah...during game you could see. I mean why are they playing off on guys with 2 catches coming in and stuff? Chris Simms did a good piece on the defense. He says it’s the biggest main problem, but it’s rather easier than expected to fix. It is too once he explained it. Stupid coaching is what it comes down to. But it’s what he said on the troubles stemming from defensive side of ball and bleeding over into rest of team. So that’s where our cancer is....and I keep hearing the word “stucture” as in something in the structure that’s leading to these dumb brain farts where Austin doesn’t return a punt and best players are not in on crucial plays and guys are 10yds off. So it’s pretty telling you gut that whole staff and playbook and way that team prepares and works. It’s all loser ball...all of it. It’s like loopholes...there’s big ones in this, and It’s set up that way by their own stupid designs.

Dallas plays down to lower teams and steps up sometimes to teams better than themselves. Been this way for years.

Marinelli should have never been hired.

I'm not entirely sure as far as the OP being accurate, although I'm not saying its not.

WHY though does it seem that when, and ONLY when, their backs are completely to the wall, and they are about to be run out of town, do we see different things and we end up with a big win?

They then go back to the same old nonsense and end up right back in the same boat.

The likely answer is stubbornness is a cancer that affects the entire organization, and it starts at the top.
