Size comparison - Jayden Blue vs. historic RBs

Blue is closer to Jahmyr Gibbs and De'von Achane in form and stature. Both of those guys are pretty much number 1's even with having a committee.

Gibbs showed last year and year before that when Montgomery went down he was able to handle the full work load.

Not saying Blue will equal their production, but in terms of stature and form he's right there.

I’m not concerned about his size or weight. He ain’t big or heavy, but he is fast enough and strong enough runner to play in the NFL. He was under Coach Sark’s RBBC at Texas who promised other backs some carries just like he promised Ewers the QB job over Arch. Don’t hold that against him, at least he didn’t get run into the ground. He’s got fresh legs.

Now just get him some holes to run through and you’ll see what happens. Remember, he’s a 5th round pick so not a bad gamble. I like the pick.

One of the first things I heard about Jayden Blue is that he is too small to be a RB1. Blue is 5’9” tall (same height as Emmitt Smith), and 196 lbs. (4 lbs heavier than Tony Dorsett. So, if Blue cannot handle being RB1, it really isn’t his size that is the issue.

Blue didn’t have the college production of either Smith or Dorsett, and there isn’t much evidence from his college tape that he has the vision of either of those HOF players. Who knows if Blue knows how to pick up a blitzing LB, or help the tackle by chip blocking a DE on the way to the flat?

There are plenty of reasons you might choose to justify a belief that Blue is not a RB1, or a future HOF player. But size isn’t one of them. Barry Sanders was 5’8”, while other HOF backs were larger.

I’m interested in how Blue will perform. I have zero concern about his size.
Definitely the most intriguing back in the room right now. Mostly because of his speed and the unknown element vs other guys here. Though I'm intrigued the lack of production and utilization does make me wonder about him a bit. But Tony Pollard also had limited utilization and he was a pretty solid acquisition so lets see how camp plays out.

Pro-Football Reference used to list the players body mass index (BMI) which I believe was a proportional evaluation of body tissues like muscle, fat, etc.

I used to have fun looking at comparisons of players with the same BMI.

I never revealed any trend or significant link to success in the NFL. There were 6th round picks with the same BMI as Emmitt Smith and they didn't make it through their first training camp.

There are, of course, physical requirements to playing in the NFL that are unwritten because they are common sense. For example, the last O-lineman under 200 pounds was probably around the 1940's.

I don't see any such requirement that eliminates Blue or limits his ability to be highly successful.

Such concerns are typically invoked after the fact in an attempt to explain a lack of success. However, there is always a more compelling reason like character, work ethic and talent.

TD played 38 to 48 years ago. Back then OLineman weighed 275. Not exactly a great comparison.

We need to get used to the RB by committee for the foreseeable future.
Bro, Jim Thorpe was 5’-10” 175 lbs. There’s no reason why Blue can’t be a workhorse!

I'm no hater toward any man... but, he wasn't even the No 1 RB for Texas. Whether he has size, height or speed - it's a pretty speculative that he could even be a starter for us much less a HOF great one.

I keep asking the question - who is the Cowboys running back?
They were deep at RB at Texas. Sark also was very stubborn on how he played his players. Seniority matters alot to him. If he went by talent alone, Blue would have started. But I think Blue is best when he is paired with a bigger back. But he can start, I just prefer not to pound him 30 times per.
