Size comparison - Jayden Blue vs. historic RBs

You left out something......

One of the first things I heard about Jayden Blue is that he is too small to be a RB1. Blue is 5’9” tall (same height as Emmitt Smith), and 196 lbs. (4 lbs heavier than Tony Dorsett. So, if Blue cannot handle being RB1, it really isn’t his size that is the issue.

Blue didn’t have the college production of either Smith or Dorsett, and there isn’t much evidence from his college tape that he has the vision of either of those HOF players. Who knows if Blue knows how to pick up a blitzing LB, or help the tackle by chip blocking a DE on the way to the flat?

There are plenty of reasons you might choose to justify a belief that Blue is not a RB1, or a future HOF player. But size isn’t one of them. Barry Sanders was 5’8”, while other HOF backs were larger.

I’m interested in how Blue will perform. I have zero concern about his size.
How does he compare to todays successful RB's? In general the players of today are bigger, stronger than ever.

Using Tony Dorsett, who was in Blue's shoes in 1977 (almost 50 years ago), as a comp is certainly a choice. You should sell us on the good idea it would be to have an offensive line averaging around 6'3" and 255 lbs. That's right where Herb Scott, Tom Rafferty and Rayfield Wright fell. What's a couple inches and 80 pounds to give up to Jordan Davis?
He's about the same size as jahmyr gibbs, bucky irving

They were deep at RB at Texas. Sark also was very stubborn on how he played his players. Seniority matters alot to him. If he went by talent alone, Blue would have started. But I think Blue is best when he is paired with a bigger back. But he can start, I just prefer not to pound him 30 times per.
No, smh.

Blue didn’t start because he was behind a better pair of RBs in Bijan Robinson and Jonathan Brooks (drafted in the 1st and 2nd rounds respectively).

In fact, Blue’s teammate, CJ Baxter was set to be the starter in 2024 before he got injured (ACL) allowing Love to step in.

Bro, Jim Thorpe was 5’-10” 175 lbs. There’s no reason why Blue can’t be a workhorse!

Back then DB's weighed 170 pounds. DLineman weighed 270. Today's NFL is significantly different.

Their is no way to compare today's players to players from 30+ years ago.

Blue is closer to Jahmyr Gibbs and De'von Achane in form and stature. Both of those guys are pretty much number 1's even with having a committee.

Gibbs showed last year and year before that when Montgomery went down he was able to handle the full work load.

Not saying Blue will equal their production, but in terms of stature and form he's right there.

Hehe, Montgomery going down meant Barkley and Gibbs won me my fantasy league.
