Skiing

There ain't no snow in Tahoe.

Agree. The ski resorts are getting killed up there as I am waiting for the big storm to hit. Doesn't see any in the near future either. What a difference a year makes as last year resorts opened in Oct and went all the way until June. Lake Tahoe is fun especially if you like to go to the casinos. One quick note, most Californians are fair weather skiers so if it snows you may have the whole mtn to yourself. The first time I went skiing in Tahoe it starte to snow in the afternoon and practically everyone including the people I went with went inside. I rode up with ski patrol and made a statement that I was not from around here. I asked him why he would say that and said because you out in this blizzard skiing. I told him I grew up skiing in the Norhteast and just smiled and said well that explains everything.

there's a great ski place here in montana called showdown. it's in a town called neihart, which is about an hour's drive away from where i live. my dad & stepmother went skiing there a lot.

You got that right. My wife and I were just talking the other day how last year we were already up in Tahoe snowboarding a couple weekends already. Never seen a dryspell like this. Lol, I've been itchin' to go, I've waxed my board two times already.

I wanted to learn snowboarding, but I barely survived the brief ski lessons I took, so there went THAT idea.

Plus once I saw that there weren't any breaks on that thing, I REALLY didn't want to snowboard. lol

A snowboard has two brakes. They are located about 2 feet below your shoulder blades.

I always tell people to give snowboarding at least two days because after your first day you'll swear it off and hate it (I know I did), but then the second day there is usually a "eureka" moment.

It's also better on your knees IMO because your legs are pretty much locked in one position versus being twisted/tweaked in either direction with skiing.

Salt Lake City.

Options are endless.

Can you elaborate on this, Hoof? I was thinking of going during the Sundance Film Festival.

For a family ski trip with the wife and kiddies I recommend Deer Valley.

They pamper the whole family there.

Its a little pricey .... but worth every penny.

I live in Roy, Utah and have been there at least 15 times. It's funny that you posted this because I don't think you live anywhere close to Deer Valley.

Once someone gets here and sees the snow, they will want to come back time and time again.

Breckenridge, CO has great skiing and a good night life. Or it did when I was there many years ago.

I was just there for a mountain biking/hiking trip at the end of August. I loved it.

We rented a cabin for a week 5-10 miles out of town. It would be even more awesome if there was snow up there.

We went on a 20 mile hike one day and ended up walking back to town and actually had to walk down the ski slopes since we got turned around a little bit.

Skiing would be sweet there.

I do not ...... I have been there 3 times myself.

Its a great great place. Especially for a family.

This thread is killing me. I miss my old job.

Florida is hell on earth.

I don't actually ski or board.

I have some friends who live in SLC, I actually spent last summer in SLC and they have some ridiculous amount of ski resorts within an hour of the city. Just an unreal amount.

Of course, if you're going to Sundance, you'll likely be only interested in the immediate stuff in and around Park City.

Crappy thing is, I was talking to my friend the other day and he said that SLC has been pretty bare for snow this year. Last year they were just loaded I guess, they had a ton of snow still in the mtns when I arrived in May but not so much this year.

They may be getting some soon though.
