The Skins fans who so love to hate and belittle Len Pasquerelli refuse to admit he was spot-on in his assessment of the Skins during the offseason.

Skins fans forced to admit that maybe spending a 3rd rounder and $10 million signing bonus on Brunell might not have been such a great idea.

The inevitable "season is already over" thread.

http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=75533

Sean Taylor no longer the next Ronnie Lott or Roy Williams.

http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=75528

.....And much more to come in the ensuing hectic hour as the Skins fans realize that the triumphant return of Joe Gibbs is not getting off to the fairy tale start they thought it would.

Classic post from that Taylor thread:

Sean taylor didn't loose the game. Gibbs lost the game along with superstar Clinton Portis. Second week in a row we go into the 4th quarter with no timeouts. The team should have been prepared and they obviously werent. But I do agree Taylor looked bad. And to think that premadona wanted to re -negotiate his underpaid contract. Ohh well hopefully we'll get it together next week.

"this team has no chance. i love joe and i love the skins but i'm tired of having my heart crushed by snyderrato and this loser organization."

This was my personal favorite tidbit of reality from the deadskins boards

The blame it on the freaking ROOKIE thread would be completely laughable if it weren't for the fact that thread so aptly epitomizes the extremism of the Skins fans. The "everything or nothing" phenomenon.

First they over hype a very good draft pick into a better than Roy Williams sensation who will make immediate, consistent Pro Bowl quality plays, not to mention "revolutionize the position". An impact player from the get-go. Then he plays like what he is, a rookie, and he's costing them the season.

You know how Bill mentioned last week "in Dallas the glass is always half empty"?

In Washington, it's either brimming over or drained dry. And in both cases, irrationality rules.

the big question is, does Snyder do what he usually does and panic in the offseason, fire Gibbs and hire--- what? He's had 4 high profile guys in a row now with the same results

personally I think they will be fine, but Gibbs is going to have to talk Snyder into being alot more conservative in the offseason...blowing draft pick after draft pick for John Madden/Playstation like trades and free agent moves is no way to build a team

Personally I think they will be fine, too, David.

Not fine enough to go far this year, but then, they saw what Bill Parcells did here with less talent last year, and figured the mighty Joe Gibbs was SB bound. But Gibbs is not Parcells. He is an innovator, but not what a national reporter this week accurately called "a turn around specialist".

What Snyder does, depends I think, on whether the rumours are true he is planning to sell the team before the cap crunch hits.

If he is in it long term, I think this year may finally convince him a team isn't built in a day, and he gets completely out of Gibbs's way for the next three years. A good thing for Skins fans and the franchise.

Either way, Danny will rake it in. Win or lose, those 91,000 seats are selling out. As the owner of the current most lucrative franchise, he can afford to build a team right. If he is unable to forgo the quick expensive fixes that don't work after he sees this year even HOF coach won't buy you miracles, then all I can say is he's got some kind of character flaw.

Mine was from a thread entitled "this was a disturbing loss".

Drinking heavily now.

Me too. I'm stuck behind a firewall at work. I'm lucky I can log onto THIS board. Most sports boards and forums are blocked.

How do we log on with an anonymous proxy?

I think they'll be fine by the end of the year too. They may end up with a .500 record. I doubt that Gibbs though is going to turn around the Skins like Parcells did with the Cowboys... I don't see the playoffs. They're missing their best player on defense right now (Arrington) and those offensive line injuries have got to hurt a little. Gibbs is rusty, they'll get it all together eventually. It just doesn't feel like those Spurrier teams. The Skins were hard to beat on MNF. They'll be even tougher in our next matchup.

I think the Skins will be fine next year but not this go round. They have already fallen to 4th in the NFCE with 2 division losses and haven't played the Eagles yet. Not good. At some point they have to start playing the younger guys which means a lot more losses.

They aren't gonna draft top 5 but they should start looking at development. They could clearly use a high 1st rounder on both sides of the ball.

I'm not so sure that's just a Extremeskin phenomenon on internet messageboards.

*cough* *cough*

Personally, I've been a bit skeptical about Joe Gibbs turning that team around. To me, there is nothing in the league more difficult than turning a franchise around and installing your system onto a new group, and Gibbs has only did it once in his career when he first took over the Commanders. He spent 12 years maintaing and tweaking a system that 90+% of the players already knew the nuts and bolts of. All the more astonishing of Parcells turning around 4 football teams, but it begs the question whether Gibbs personality style is suited for such a task of confrontation. I know Commander fans think that these 24 year old kids should just do whatever Gibbs says becasue "its Joe Gibbs", but its ancient history to these kids.

True, and I don't mean to characterize a whole fanbase based on one board, but I have noticed the "prove it to me" thrust of Cowboys fans when a player is signed, as compared to the "Brunell is the 9th leading passer for all time", and "Portis is on track to be the greatest runner ever" type posting at Extreme. It's not "a what have you done for me lately" here so much as a "what you did in the past matters little" thing. For example, Keyshawn is proving himself, but he's had to do just that - his past accomplishments were for the most part, downplayed, not hyped, when he was signed.

Good point, and this explains the winning percentage differential between Bill and Joe. When you take over 1-15 teams like the Jets, or a team as talent poor as the Pats were in 93, you are not going to look as good on paper as a coach who built once, then as you say, tweaked.
