Just FYI, heard this morning, coming into work. Portis is most likely not to play (bummer, I'd rather face him). Haynesworth was in a walking boot and hasn't practiced all week.

Funny thing about Haynesworth is... in every Commanders game I've watched this year he's taken a knee or laid out on the field and had to have the trainers tend to him at least once.

I think it has more to do with him just being horribly out of shape than constant injuries.

I expect he'll play this weekend.

Green Bay, without 3 linebackers and another starting offensive lineman.

I love seeing the injuries, but we really seem unable to take advantage sometimes. REALLY unable to take advantage.

We excel at playing down to the level of our opponent. Have to admit I get jealous of the Pats and their ability to play complete games and crush lesser teams.

I wouldn't say as much. They played down to the Jets earlier this year and got punched in the mouth, similar to us vs. Green Bay.

Pats players are probably scared ****less to screw up. Dallas......not so much.

I hope Haynesworth plays, watching he and Gurode play each other is always a treat. I got to see Haynesworth play live for the first time last year, he is an incredible athlete (see last weeks game where he lined up at DE several times) and a gift to watch for any football fan. I have faith that if he does play we'll find a way to contain him.

Haynesworth less likely for Dallas

By David Elfin on Nov. 20, 2009 into Commanders 360

Don't expect Albert Haynesworth to play Sunday at Dallas.

The All-Pro defensive tackle isn't on the field again this morning. He hasn't practiced all week because of the left ankle he sprained last Sunday against Denver.

As of Thursday afternoon, Haynesworth's ankle was still in a boot.

Coach Jim Zorn said on Thursday that Haynesworth would be a game-time decision, but if the man can't even work on the side while his teammates practice, it's hard to see him lining up on FieldTurf against the Cowboys two days later.

Kedric Golston, the starter in 2006 and 2008, would start if Haynesworth can't play. Anthony Montgomery, the starter in 2007, could then be active for the first time all season.

It's clear that Fat Albert is afraid of lining up against Gurode and being made to look like a fool.

We desperately need him to play. Without him, I don't see how we'll pressure Romo.

Out-of-Town Q&A: Dallas Cowboys

By David Elfin on Nov. 18, 2009 into Commanders 360

We caught up with Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News, where he's been covering the Dallas Cowboys since the 2003 season. He agree to answer three quick questions about this weekend's opponent for Commanders 360.

1. The Cowboys were playing so well. What happened against the Packers and will that continue going forward?

I think you chalk that one up to the desperate team theory. Green Bay had to have that one or its season was over. The Cowboys' offense was disjointed and could never get going. That hadn't happened all year. Tony Romo makes it all go for Dallas and he never really got going. The Commanders come into this game, desperate, too, I suppose, and have won five of the last eight meetings.

2. Where the heck did Miles Austin come from?

He had just 18 catches during his first three seasons. He's made a ton of big plays this hot streak, but things slowed some against Philly and Green Bay, which paid extra attention to him. He didn't catch a pass in either game until the fourth quarter. It's part of the growing process of a receiver. He has all the necessary skills, but he's seeing things that he hasn't seen before and he has to make some adjustments.

3. If Dallas has had a season-long weakness, it seems to be the pass defense. What's going wrong there?

It's improved a lot lately and most of that is due to the pass rush. The Cowboys didn't get a sack in their first two games, but they have 24 in the last seven. Cornerback Mike Jenkins has played a lot better in second year, but he's troubled by a bruised left biceps. Free safety Ken Hamlin won't play Sunday because of ankle injury, but Gerald Sensabaugh has played well at strong safety. Terence Newman has been a little inconsistent, but when he's matched up with a receiver all over the field, he has been terrific. The problem for the defense is that it doesn't get turnovers. The Cowboys have picked off just six passes.

Quote:
Commanders coach Jim Zorn said Haynesworth's status remains a game-time decision, although a league source told NFL.com's Steve Wyche on Friday that the defensive lineman probably will not be healed in time to play.

A team source told NFL Network's Jason La Canfora on Thursday that the Commanders are discussing dressing an extra defensive tackle -- Anthony Montomery -- for the game at Dallas. Montgomery has been a starter in previous seasons but has yet to play in 2009.
