I really don't even think Collins is better than Leary.
Green seems better than Free though.
I kind of think Collins and Leary are a wash. I don't think Collins is as good as a run blocker, but I think he's better in pass protection. But I wouldn't argue either way because I think the difference is negligible.
I think we need to see Green on the right side before we proclaim him better there than Free. I do like what he has done on the left side in place of Smith. I did not know we would get that level of play from him this year.
Free has one more year on his contract and we save $5 million if we release him after this season, so I'd certainly like to get Green some playing time at RT to see if he can replace Free. Then, that savings could be used to sign another of the linemen long term.
In fact, what I would like to see happen, even though I know it won't, is for Dallas to sign Leary to a four-year deal and let Collins compete with him and Green for the starting LG and RT spots. I think this year shows the value of having more than five starting-caliber linemen and we would have six with Smith, Leary, Frederick, Martin, Collins and Green. Looney appears to be a decent backup who can also step in on the interior, so we'd be in great shape on the line.
