Is it just me or (from the reports I've read) is Skyler Green not doing anything. It seems that he is always dropping passes. I know that he will mainly be used this year as a kick/punt returner, but I was hoping he would provide something at WR.

Parcells ruled that out before training camp. He was drafted as a returner.

I've been hearing the same thing as well. Hopefully Sam Hurd works out great as a WR and we don't have to worry about Green's struggles as a WR.

Green will be used sparingly as a wide receiver just as David Meggett was as a running back. Parcells fed Meggett around 5% of the rushing attempts per game. The majority of his production was as a kick returner. Green will probably see less than that as a wide receiver--even if there were a significant injury to one of the other receivers. He's here to be a kick return specialist.

this guy is a returner, that we hope pans out at WR.

Exactly, the plan is for the guy to be a difference maker in the return game, a spark we have not had, particularly at the punt returner position probably since Kevin Williams and KMART.
Maybe after two seasons he might be able to contribute at WR but you can't dismiss the significance of special teams contributions. Look at Dante Hall in KC.

umm isnt this the same kind of situation as woody danztler? why should green take up a roster spot if all he'll be doing is being a return guy..but parcells is already on record as saying he wouldnt keep a guy on the roster just as a kick returner, when he could use that spot for another area of need

Good point. I don't think Parcells will be happy with him not contributing anything at WR unless he is a GREAT returner. We haven't seen him actually return kicks in a game yet, but the pick doesn't look so rosy now.

The reason why he ruled it out is because he can't catch. Bill likes guys who are versatile. He better burn it up on punts.

Bob Dole saw him play at LSU and his receiving skills are very inconsistant. He's got all the speed in the world but as many have said, he's best suited as a returner in the NFL.

Bob Dole--I thought he was more quick than fast...

Why can't a good returner turn into a good WR?

the difference between him and Dantzler, is that he's a rookie, and has a chance to improve as a WR, where as Dantzler couldnt even make up his mind what position he wanted to be played at

Well he could, but he seemed to just be a guy who was a great athlete but as far as wide receiver skills (route running, catching, etc.), they just weren't there. That's not to say he'll never develop them, but there's tons of Skyler Green's every year that never make it at receiver because they lack those skillls.

You mean Dantzler could choose his own position? I thought that was Bill's job. The difference only matters if Green has *some* promise as a WR--otherwise, it's the same.

This is training camp cc cowboy... this is the time for rookies to make their mistakes... I'm not going to worry if a fourth round rookie has dropped a few passes two weeks into TC... the month to learn from mistakes is this month... not December. Don't worry!!

Dantzler was a former QB they were trying to find another position for, at safety.
Green has been a WR, he needs to developed to contribute as one as a pro but he is at his natural postion and can be a special teamer while he develops at WR. Much like Rocky Boiman was brought in for his special teams performance and its a bonus that he chips in at LB.
With Dantzler everyone was hoping he might workout at safety to justify keeping him for his special teams performance.

I watched Skyler Green at LSU. He is more akin to Dante Hall than Santana Moss. I think the Cowboys would eventually like him to be like Santana Moss, but receiving is not his strength, and it will take time to develop this part of his game.

However, he is MAGIC on kick returns, and you will see him take many to the house, as he did at LSU!

I agree. He was a high school QB who was moved to WR at LSU and has from time to time lined up in the backfield as a RB but his talent is in the return game. I think if he can cut it in the NFL as a return man Dallas could use him in some offensive situations to try and take advantage of his running skills

I agree. Dante Hall is used as a WR in some passing situations by the Chiefs, but he isn't on the field as much as say Santana Moss. Dante Hall is the one that caught the long bomb from Trent Green against us at the very end of last December's game at TX Stadium. This set up their FG attempt at the end, which they missed.

If we can use Green the same way, as a full time kick returner and situational WR, then I would be happy.
