It's a complete replacement. New story, many parts of the game reworked. Even new voice acting. Generally tougher setup. A bit darker. The team that did this also did a replacement for Oblivion called Nehrim. This is pretty much top of the line for mods.

Console player here. So I can't do any of the good stuff, Just the basic game.

With that said, I still play it from time to time. I spend most of my time wandering the map and exploring though. I have to stay my Orc build is kind of a tank right now. I use very limited magic if possible as I'm more of a warrior ( sword and shield ) kind of guy .

If you get the remastered on console it will have Mod support.

Me Im a magic user. My build is very battlemageish. One handed weapons with DOTs and CC spells

I'm not sure how much mod support it actually has though. Everything I've read points to limited options for modding. And I'm not buying a game for better graphics, the vanilla game is good enough in that regard. But yeah, if the good mods are available I'll jump on it for sure.

Im still waiting on the mod support for Fallout 4 on PS4. I think that will be a good indication of the type of mods for Skyrim.

I've played both PS3 and PC Skyrim. I prefer to go light in the mods and use them to enhance gameplay as oposed to completely altering it. Things like enemys, NPC's, travelers to make the towns seem more alive
