I'm still awake and it's nearly 9AM. This is like the fixth time this happened in the last week. I have no idea why I can't fall asleep. Should I consult a doctor about this issue?

Oh geez

What does your diet consist of?

What kind of physical activity do you do?

You need to cut back on the sugars and caffeine towards the evening for sure. (If you are consuming that)

You really need to work out hard everyday, at any age it is needed and sitting on your butt will catch up with you.

Most doctors will prescribe a medication. I wouldn't go there. Look into these minerals/OTC hormones:

Melatonin
Magnesium oil (by Ancient Minerals)
ZMA (Zinc, magnesium, vitamin B6 formula)

Those will certainly help with regulating your sleep cycles and hitting REM well. Do you suffer from any muscle twitching?

I thought this was going to be about bed wetting. Oh well.

I started working out this month.

You will need sleep to provide muscle recovery to keep workouts effective. A typical person can get enough muscle recovery in 4-5 hours of sleep but for mental recovery too they will need 7-8 hours.

Also if your workouts are real close to your sleep time, try moving them to another time.

Have you tried Trying to sleep? I know that sounds silly but laying in a dark quiet room is much better in triggering sleep than sitting infront of a PC.

After long periods of no sleep do you crash for very long times or do you still struggle to sleep? If you crash for long times you need to get your sleep schedule back on track. If you struggle to sleep even with sleep debt you need to see a doctor.

If you have become dependent on sleep aid that could be a problem too. Reduce your caffeine intake, try to slowly get off of a sleep aid.

If you still can't sleep you might go to your doctor and discuss sleep disorders.

Get yourself into a pattern in the evening, too. Try to start winding down about an hour or so before bedtime. Don't have any caffiene, as others mentioned, maybe try some reading or relaxing music, really low-key activity.

Keep yourself at a regular bedtime and stick to it, even if you don't feel like you're tired when you head to bed.

Put on your Dre Beats and listen to some music to help you fall to sleep.

Don't have enough info to recommend, well, anything. You're up at 9am and workout. How much sleep do you get when you sleep? When do you usually sleep? When do you try to go to sleep? When you sleep, do you stay asleep? Those are the type of questions that need answered before doctoring up.

If you're sleeping from 10am to 5:30-7pm, then you're fine, just on an ***-backwards schedule.

:laugh2: Nice

Sleep is almost always about diet and exercise if it's not stress.

I think you should have given more info. Like your regular sleep patterns and what your diet has been like.

As someone who regularly has insomnia, no, you probably do not need a doctor for one or two episodes. Sometimes the mind and body just don't want to shut down.

Turn off TVs and radios, and the PC and read a book. It usually will slow your mind down enough to allow you to relax and get tired.

I'd go with the melatonin supplement.
Take a pill 1/2 hour to an hour before you go to bed and you'll feel it.

It's good to get you back on schedule and it's not a drug.

That's one of the keys, IMO. Do not get stressed out about it. You'll get sleep when you need it. You can turn a common one night of tossing and turning into a week long battle with self induced insomnia stressing about why you can't sleep.

Everybody has some kind of issue with sleep at some point in their life. So the kid's not alone.

Good advice in here about avoiding pills. They'll work but you can quickly become dependant on them. Which only makes a bigger issue of it.
