It looks like we will going with the Comp Pick/Bargain route....... this is because of a lack of quality FAs after tags and re-signs........ we also have several departing FAs that will qualify for Comp Picks

Leary 7-9m possible 3rd................cancelled by Perry
TWill 6-8m possible 4th
Mo Claiborne 6m 4th
Church 4-5m 4th
Carr 4-5m 4th
Wilcox 2-4m 5th

TMcClain 2-3m 6th...................cancelled by CPatterson
Escobar 2-3m 6th
Butler 2-3m 6th
DMC 1-2m 6th
Sanchez 1-2m 6th
JCrawford 1-2m 6th
Gachkar 1m 7th

We could easily qualify for the allotment of 4 Comp picks- 4th, 4th, 6th, 6th

I would re-sign Mo, Carr, Wilcox, Butler, Sanchez
I would shoot for the best DE left on the FA market like Perry or Sheard but I would also look into trading for a SDE......it won't be cheap but it never is

Then the bargain shopping begins

Adrian Peterson would be a top get....he is not a comp pick guy and he wants to be here..... a cheap base deal with incentives if EE gets hurt
If KC cuts Jamaal Charles he would be a top sign since he wouldn't count against the comp picks...if not I would re-sign DMC or go for a Jacquizz Rodgers or Denard Robinson

At WR I would shoot for Cordarelle Patterson as a WR4/KR and or Mike Floyd since he was also released and won't count as a comp pick but he will probably miss 4-6 games for Xtreme DUI....

I like DJ Swearinger as a sleeper at SS....he puts people to sleep when he hits them and seems to have matured with his penalties

I don't think the Cowboys will be doing much at all in FA outside of keeping their own. They should get at least a 3rd and maybe 2 depending on which team gets involved on Williams. I could definitely see a 3rd, 2 4ths and a 5th next year. Would be great if some team like Tennessee or Cleveland decided to overpay Williams to get him. It would be amazing to get 2 3rds, and 2 4ths next year.

The thing is they have to decide right away......going for Comp picks dictates your whole offseason

Certain FAs are just off limits......I would go for it this year because we have so many FAs leaving

Next year with Romo gone and less homegrown FAs, we can spend some money on a couple stars

The Draft will be ultra-important again this year

Hope you are wrong. Some of those guys can and should be churned. Jerry made this mistake during the 90's, becoming too attached to his average to above average players. Churn for value, look for high reward up and comers/low risk opportunities and draft well. THEN he can throw money at one or even 2 key free agents. There needs to be a sense of urgency even if Romo is no longer the QB, injuries could derail even this young team. Stop settling for status quo.

Every business needs to try to improve, or it will stagnate. There is not even ONE player on above list that is critical to championship contender.

I would love to be wrong about it. I'm completely opposed to the way the Cowboys have almost completely turned away from free agency as a talent avenue. Recently it's been bottom of the barrel leftovers or nothing. Hardy was an exception but even he was low risk with his 1 year pay as you go deal.

I'm not usually in favor of spending on major Fas every year, but they should at least go into the process with an open mind on the mid-tier players. There's always positions that can be had for decent contracts. If they fail to realize how they are all but eliminating a major source of talent acquisition, I fear the team will barely keep their head above water.

The draft is great. It is also only able to fill a couple of holes every year if they are consistently good. The way the league is now, you're barely able to fill the holes from players leaving though. Unless you hit on 4+ players annually, you really need to supplement your roster with FAs and Dallas isn't doing that.

I think we end up seeing Church or Wilcox re-signed, Carr or Claiborne and Butler along with some more minor players. Outside of that we might see some small fish in FA, but that's the extent of what I think they do unfortunately.
