Sleeper: Houston OT Sebastian Vollmer

One of the most intriguing offensive line prospects in the 2009 NFL draft is All-Conference USA left tackle Sebastian Vollmer. He allowed only one sack in 610 pass attempts by the Cougars last season.

But Vollmer is still learning how to play both his position and the game of football. He was born and raised in Germany but played American football there on a two-time national champion. He was lightly recruited by American colleges, garnering scholarship offers from Houuston, Indiana, Louisiana Tech and Western Michigan.

Vollmer redshirted in 2004, played some tight end in 2005 and then missed 2006 with a back injury. He returned as a tackle in 2007 and started his final two seasons to put himself on NFL draft boards.

Vollmer was not invited to the NFL scouting combine but did play in the Texas vs. Nation all-star game where he attracted the attention of scouts. His coaches flipped him from the left side to right offensive tackle and that's where his future lies in the NFL -- on the power side. He's a giant at 6-7, 315 pounds. His arrow is pointing up and, on a thin tackle board, he could find himself in the middle rounds of this draft.

are there any sleepers that play for a team not in the state of Texas?

yep, thats looks like houck

Thanks, Cowboyjoe.

I wasn't 100% sure like last time. (LSU)

I looked back at the LSU picture, and that is definately him, I think.

I have no idea what Dallas will do in this draft. You know, they show interest in Dorell Scott, but will they take him with Ratliff entrenched?

Herman Johnson:

Do they think he can play on their leftside?

Jamon Meredith:

Do they think he's too light in the pants?

I don't know, but Houck was at both pro days.

The Eagles and Steelers like big, strong offensive linemen, and they are interested in Meredith. Both teams need tackles. Plus, Meredith plays guard and tackle. He's played everywhere but center. He's really strong in his upper body. He's huge.

In my opinion, Houck wasn't there for a vacation. He's looking at Meredith.

I think this is a good sleeper name. The Cowboys seem to like looking at Houston guys, especially after the draft. And we know that Wade will know something about him.

never go for a lineman who already has had back problems.

And stay away from LSU linemen on either side of the ball.

I'm liking OT Lyndon Murtha from Nebraska. Somebody brought up that Lang kid from Eastern Michigan, I like him too. He is quite versatile, being able to play all 5 OL positions, but has been projected as a Center in the NFL.

If we were able to grab Duke Robinson with 51, then use some of our late round picks on Lang and Murtha, I would be pleased with our drafting of the OL.

Then I look to UDFA, if they go undrafted, to try to get some of these guys.....Ryan Delrosal, Jose Valdez, Sean Sester, George Bussey

only at LOG, or ROG or ROT, he is too slow in feet for LOT

Jamon Meredith:

Do they think he's too light in the pants?yes, he has got to get alittle stronger in the weight room and some weight on himself, generally offensive linemen fill out by the time they turn 23 to 24.

yes thats Houcks job, and remember best i remember he found larry allen too

He is huge, but i heard he needs alittle more ballast in his hips, etc and get alittle more stronger, just like when the cowboys drafted erik williams, it took him 2 years to turn the corner

totally agree

Murtha is definitely an interesting prospect, I use Pat Kirwan's strength and explosion formula (bench press + vertical + broad-jump) as a nice, little exercise, and among OTs, Murtha ranks the highest with a 69.02, followed by UConn's William Beatty (68.61), South Carolina's Jamon Meredith (67.09) and Illinois' Xavier Fulton (67.03)

a 70 is considered to be a great score

Let's take TJ Lang in the 3rd and Murtha in the 5th or 6th.

Lang can play all 5 positions, but will most likely settle in at backup Center. Murtha will immediately be a backup T, not sure if he would be RT or LT. We have Holland or Kosier as a backup G with the other being a starter. If we keep Free at the other backup T, we would need to draft one more OL to play at the Guard position.
