The following link is to a blog post by writer Kiana Davenport about her trying to make ends meet by publishing some of her short stories that the publishers weren't interested in publishing. She self-published them as eBooks with Amazon and her publisher went ape **** about it.

As someone who used to work in the world of books, I can say with full authority that publishers are ****.

Her two eBooks (House of Skin and Cannibal Nights) sound interesting. At $2.99 a pop, I don't think I can go wrong. I think I will pick them up.

My uncle's neighbors are a husband/wife team who retired from the editing and publishing business. She was the editor, I believe. He's a rooster sucker.

I got a few tips from him, a bit of advice, some cutting back-handed compliments, and "Don't ever call me again" after he offered to look at my first few chapters when my uncle mentioned that I was writing my first novel. One of the things that really stuck in my head was him saying that "you might get this published, if you can write like this." It sounded like he was accusing me of plagiarism.

From what I can gather from my uncle, he was forced out of the business and hates what the literary world has become.

On a different note, the author of "Demon Kissed" is a contributor at Pixtus.com. She's working her fourth novel right now, or just finished the artwork for #4, I forget which. She mentioned to me that it's very newbie beware and I took that not everyone is on your side when it comes to getting the thing in print.
