We really haven't discussed replacing Jordin Lewis, many assume just draft an outside corner and kick Bland back inside. Who are some of the names we should watch that can fill this nickel/slot role?

-Barron Texas (very similar to Lewis, short-armed, but is physical inside the box)
-Parrish K-State
-Riley Louisville (have heard the Cowboys have put in a lot of work on this prospect)
-Ransaw Tulane
-McWilliams UCF

Do we have anyone ( other than Bland ) on the roster who could compete for starting job? I'm asking coz I don't know. Keep in mind, Lewis was a 4th round pick and Bland a 5th rounder. So if we are talking particularly slot CB, they may not address it until day 3.

They probably like Carson. He played hurt most of the season but he had a solid camp.

I’d think most would assume Carson would get the first shot as that’s where they initially had him in camp before the injury to Bland’s foot I believe!
I’d think moving Bland back to slot would be the last resort unless they want to near triple the price for highest paid slot corner that was just recently set.
Not sure that’s a jet setter Jerry wants to be!
Considering Eberflus runs an almost exclusively zone coverage scheme I think you’re way overthinking the issue!

Lewis was a 3rd who fell from the top of to mid 2nd because of domestic violence issue with his girlfriend!

I think resigning Muku could also add competition.

I have heard, Eberflus uses far more press coverage then what we used to see under Marinelli. I think he is going to disguise what they are doing, where you knew the holes in Marinelli's scheme.

In a perfect world, you would like to draft a corner who has the versatility to play both. However, if they want to fill this particular role they might target more of a nickel only player. Riley from Louisville is a name to watch as I have heard strong attention from the Cowboys.

Bland really wasnt very good inside. He made plays, but he got picked on. I hope if they draft a CB, they draft one that can slide into the slot in Nickel. Thats why I hope they have a high grade on Barron

I dont know if I would ever draft a CB in the 1st that cant cover the slot. Its a much harder position to cover than outside. I think a Cowboy template for any CB drafted in the first should be Newman.

id love one of those jayhawks...cobee bryant or mello dotson.

if they go cb in rd2...ben morrison, notre dame or amos, ole' miss would be excellent.
im also a fan of denzel burke, ohio st.

I don't see Will Johnson ever being a slot corner, but a quality outside prospect.

I am real high on Barron myself, many think he is similar to the Chiefs corner in McDuffie.

It will be interesting to see if they look to just fill the slot need or find an all around corner who can do it all.

He likes to use a cover 3 zone in early downs.. Mukuamo may be OK in a pinch but teams are going to game plan and expose him if he’s played for more than 2 or 3 consecutive games.
He runs almost exclusively cover 2 zone in passing downs. He has run it as his primary coverage going back to Indianapolis and has increased his usage of it as his coverage of choice as seasons went by through his time in Chicago!

Parrish is a guy I'd take if given the chance. In some mocks I have done I have traded up into the 4th using a multitude of our later 5,6 7th rd picks and drafted him there. But honestly, I don't see him getting that far.

Those little 29” baby arms are most likely going to limit him to slot. Can’t see nor expect anyone using a top 15 pick on a slot corner. Someone will most likely take the chance in the mid 20s hoping that he’s an outlier because of his skillset but that’s about as high as I would go!

I really like Caleb Ransaw out of Tulane. Hard to project where these small school guys will get drafted but he can mirror guys well and comes downhill hard in the run game. Just an excellent blend of fundamentals, athleticism (tbh he tested better than I expected) and instincts.

If he transferred to a top school we might be talking about him in round 2.
