Coming into the season, the 6’1, 222 pound monster Patrick Peterson from LSU was considered by many to be the top cornerback and possibly the top complete prospect in college football. He has had a solid season as a Junior, but has found some competition as the top cornerback for the 2011 NFL Draft. Nebraska senior Prince Amukamara has been nothing short of dominant, shutting down top wideouts on the other side and minimizing the damage against other NFL prospects. Which one is the better choice for a team in the Top 5-10 overall in need of a shut down corner? Who will be selected first?

I think Prince's haircut alone gives him the victory.

I've read some things about Peterson I don't like though. In a write up in ESPN The Magazine they asked him who he studies to add to his game and his response was that he doesn't study anyone, that they study him.

The last thing I want is a guy relying solely on his athleticism and thinking he's above studying the game.

Yeah I agree with you there. I'm about tired of the cocky dumb stuff that always makes us the butt of jokes as fans and as a team when our players get elated over a first down and then thump their chests only to fumble the game away a play later.

I just want guys who are going to play hard for 60 minutes and be humble about it.

I'm not sure where this notion of Peterson having stiff hips came from. It's nonsense; he has hips to play cornerback.

T. Newman has "stiff hips" for a cornerback. Quinten Jammer has stiff hips. Mike Jenkins has very fluid hips.

Point is, it's not the end-all be-all for a cornerback.

To late the Cowboys already have on of those.....Michael Jenkins :)

I'm fine with amukamara I actually think he will be a solid corner

Same here, but I'm a Nebraska homer. I'd be down with Peterson. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt on that comment. Many said Dez Violent was trouble, but that doesn't seem true at all.

I've been saying that all along. If you want a potential shut down CB, Prince is the guy. Not Peterson.

I would like to see a scouting report broken down for each game of how they fared this season.

At 222#, isn't Peterson a biscuit shy of being a safety?

Seriously, though, I don't follow college football, but does he have the skill set to be a dominant FS (tackling, run support, etc.)?

I really doubt he weighs 222, but I would love him as a safety.

From reading about him, yes.

He's 222lbs and runs like a WR.

He's got elite, rare, CB written all over him.

I'd take either one of them and wouldn't shed a tear one way or the other.

We need a saftey a lot more than we need a CB. Jenkins is not bad. People are overexagerrating. He had some bad plays at the beginning of the season, but it's not like he is getting beat on a regular basis. The problem is Ball is absolutely atroticious. He is completely lost out there and is always caught out of position. He makes our whole secondary look bad. If we had Peterson at FS it would instaneously improve our secondary by leaps and bounds.

I agree, but I wouldn't pass on Prince. Newman won't be here forever and if we actually wait to draft a guy until we need him it's too late.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have Peterson, but like I said, I won't cry a bit if we end up with Prince.

This...too many times our corners were left out to hang with no safety help and they lost their confidence. When Hamlin was here Jenkins played like an All Pro, he just didn't get worse in one year. It's the safety that is supposed to have his back that left him out to dry so many times this year.

Like in the first Eagles game when Desean Jackson had that long TD. Jenkins was trying to make a play on the ball underneath the route and expected help from Ball over the top. Jenkins failed to tip the ball, but Alan Ball was woefully out of position and Jackson was able to race past him for the TD.
