What did Coach Smith do on the last drive? Run the ball three times and punt because he was afraid to make a mistake?

No. He went for the kill and had Ryan pass the ball several times to make sure that the Falcons moved the chains in order to keep us off the field.

Did the Falcons look confused and rattled?

How many of you think Garrett goes for the kill like that in the same situation?

smith showed some real balls on that drive.

Garrett plays for FG's and not to lose in most situations, simple as that.

Better example is what they both did on the long FG tries. Gingy gives them primo field position that they scored from, Smith pinned us deep.

Athletes of this day and age do not respect that.

It used to be the way to do it, and players bought into it.

Athletes are different today, they like coaches that have moxie, that will take a chance, that will show confidence in the team.

Kids are shaped by Sports Center, highlight shows, etc.

Tomlin faked a FG and they got stuffed, but his team responded and bailed him out.

Kids today like stuff like that, or going for it on 4th down, fake punts, onsides kicks, etc.

I think coaching decisions like that charge the team up.

Always playing for FG's and being conservative in this day and age turns the kids off.

wait wait wait...he passed? ut I thought we pass too much? I don't get it. you are saying garrett should pass more?

Did you watch the first game of the season? Dallas passed the ball on both of their final two drives of that game.

He did and I agree that Garrett gets too conservative at times. However, he was fortunate that Claiborne didn't pick that pass where there should have been a PI call on Atlanta.

The problem is Jason Garrett coaches like a backup quarterback. His job then was to not take many risks and not lose the game. I don't believe you can coach like that in today's NFL. With all the rules favoring the passing game you must stay aggressive and go for Td's rather than settle for field goals. Trying to preserve leads with your defense only is a sure recipe for failure in today's NFL.

Sure we did. But most of the time we don't. We are tentative and not aggressive enough when the game is on the line.

And you know it.

That's the problem here. Was that first game an anomaly? Why couldn't the Cowboys continue playing like that since then? It has been nothing but regression since opening week.

Pressure needs to be put on opposing teams defenses from start to finish. More times than not, it is too conservative and only opens up the offense when it is too late. His situational play-calling is horrid and it looks like Jason has no idea when/where/what to call.

He had to stay aggressive cause he saw the way Romo carved up his defense on the drive prior to that possesion. He was obviously trying to string first downs together to eat clock.

We bailed them out on three occasions on that drive by not stopping them on 3rd down. They won and hats off to them, but lets not say Smith is a genius just yet. If Dallas show no signs of moving the ball on their defense, believe me he would have run the ball and eat clock and punt if they had to.

Yeah sure buddy.

n that's what separates good-great coaches from faux/joke coaches.

Jason Carrot thinks with his princeton school book. Smith trusts his gut.

Jason Carrot has no guts.

Actually, Garrett ran 3 straight times on the last drive, only because of a hold against Dallas did he pass on third down the second time.
