Why does Smith get flak for having the "best line ever" and "oh he wasn't that great he just played a long time" yet Rice is easily considered the best wr ever, yet he wasn't the most skilled.

Moss took plays off but was way more athletic than rice. Rice had many hofers on his teams.

Sanders retired early but was athletic freak.

Rice is regarded as the goat wr

Smith they try to push out of top 5 ever and discredit due to surrounding talent.

What gives?

Emmitt was my favorite player of all time and he actually made the Cowboys offensive line better in my opinion. Emmitt was the best player on the 90s Cowboys. The fact that Emmitt was a Cowboy is the reason why he is underrated. Rice on the other hand was a 49er. When that team was going well with Walsh and Montana they were like the Patriots in popularity during the Brady years. Rice is the GOAT at receiver. I never seen a more complete receiver and his acceleration after a catch was breathtaking. Fun fact, the Cowboys were going to draft Rice if the 49ers passed on him.

Jerry Rice played with two Hall of Fame QBs which certainly helped his career. He won several Super Bowl rings and retired the all-time leading receiver. To this day the closest receiver to him in receiving yards is over 5000 yards away. Rice also has the all-time record for career TDs. Plus he’s the all-time receiving yardage leader in the playoffs with over 2200 yards. Jerry Rice has a lot of skins on the wall and defied the test of time by playing until he was 42 years old.

Emmitts year in 1999 killed the oline talk but hate reigns Supreme towards Cowboys

Someone list out all the pro bowl appearances of Emmitt's OL before he showed up.

People are stupid and Nate Newton said it best.

He said he was just an avg lineman the this young kid named Emmitt showed up, and bam, Im a pro bowler.

Watch the Collinsworth Belichick interview with Emmitt from the top 100 players a few years ago. It was clear that Belichick held Emmitt in very high regard. The people who know football know how dang good Emmitt was. Also his tenure alone makes him amazing in my opinion.

Belichick: I'm just absolutely flabbergasted at the way you consistently can run the ball for positive yards. I've never seen so many people take so many two-yard gains and turn them into eight-yard plays. ... I'm completely enamored by the way you can set a block and run the football on such a consistent basis.”

(this is the only link I could find)

The great wall of Dallas is considered the greatest OL in NFL history. It was so great they dedicated a documentary (A Football Life) about it. However, when Emmitt was holding out the first two games of the 93 season the Cowboys went 0-2 and his backup didn’t do much.
