according to Jason La Canfora, Fred smoot just left Commanders park and is heading back home to Mississippi. No contract was struct. However, talks will continue tonight...

"Fred Smoot Still Does Not Have A Deal/Fisher Here
Like I've been writing, the Skins were the first team to pounce on him. They pushed for him. They got deep into negotiations. They got close to a deal. They have no deal and had no deal and Joe Gibbs said just a few minutes ago, "No deal is imminent with anyone." The sides expect to speak again tonight.

That includes Smoot.

Howard just heard that Smoot is leaving the building and flying home. Could he still sign here, sure? But all of the stuff on certain website was way premature if not completely wrong.

Hmm, do you think maybe someone within this building would leak a false rumor that Smoot was already signed to a website owned by the same guy who owns the Commanders? And thenpeople from that website barrage profootballtalk.com with emails until they post the same thing - that Smoot had signed here yesterday afternoon 0 you know, to like scare off other teams or get out the perception that Smoot was already signed here?

Nah, couldn't be. Stuff happens during the recruiting period of free agency and I know it's dog eat dog out there. I ain't hating even if something like that happened, 'cause that's the NFL and any little advantage helps. Just a theory"

way to break the story ES

I would imagine that its possible that someone from ES said they had a friend, who has a friend, who has a friend, who's sister once saw Smoot in a bar, and said they had a deal struck, already, and PFT expert research picked up on it.

Smoot is overrated.

He's solid...nothing more.

He's a prime example of a player with a big mouth, making himself out to be better than he really is.

He's not even solid!!! Did you see his game in Minn. it was awful. Infact, he was benched, his game was so bad..

That is right.

It was posted plain as day at Extremeskins.

Now there is a "Signed: Fred Smoot*" thread in its place.

:lmao2:

I have this mental image of Fred Smoot signing with the Cowboys and practicing against T. Owens everyday.

If their conversations were taped and later published ....

Oh the humanity.

smoot now signed confirmed by the post

Fred Smoot-DB- Vikings Mar. 3 - 6:51 pm et

The Commanders have reportedly come to terms with CB Fred Smoot.

Smoot experienced his share of off-field troubles and on-field inconsistency in Minnesota, but now returns to the team where he made his mark. At this point, with Shawn Springs still on the roster, Smoot is scheduled to play the nickel, but that could change if Springs is traded to Detroit or released after June 1. Terms of Smoot's deal are coming.

Well, if JJ wants Davis, it just became a touch easier for him as the Skins cap room starts filling up.

Does anybody have the details of Smoots contract yet?

I'd love to know how much cap room the Skins have left, they seem to be linked with a lot more FA's than I expected. I'm trying to figure out how it's possible with the amount of cap room they have left.
