Snap counts vs commanders

Here are the snap counts from yesterday’s big win over Washington. Lots of interesting notes:

• Both Wash and Dallas had 67 offensive snaps. Cowboys were way more efficient with theirs.
• Jaydon Blue up to 15 snaps and had a couple of good runs. If he can become more consistent and reliable perhaps more PT for Blue.
• Deron Bland played all 67 defensive snaps and played very well. Pick 6, flew all over the field making tackles. Hopefully he’s back to full health.
• Kenneth Murray also played all 67 defensive snaps and continues to mystify us as to what coaches are seeing in him. Not impressed.
• Marist Liafau had 10 snaps and made some plays. Less Murray - more Liafau?

Murray had a decent game. Came up and made several run stops. Can still be lost at times, but I think playing MLB instead of WLB suited him better. He attacked the run game.

I feel like we really missed Juanyeh Thomas, both on defense and on ST. Bell and Wilson play the same role, they shouldn’t be on the field together.

Schoonmaker's snaps need to go down and Luepke's up. Same with Tolbert and Flournoy. Swap those four and it looks better to me.

I feel like we really missed Juanyeh Thomas, both on defense and on ST. Bell and Wilson play the same role, they shouldn’t be on the field together.

I felt Bell's safety play in this one was the best we've seen from the position this year. He gave up some plays but came up and made some quick stops and caused a few misses in the passing game.

CB Steward only played special teams. No snaps at CB. I thought Steward was playing decent at CB. I guess not since Bridges got the snaps at CB along with Bland and Elam.

Shemar James played 99% of the defensive snaps. I wonder what happens when Sanborn returns.

Lol hes going to make $8m over his current 3 year deal. $2.6M per year...there are a lot of back ups making that in this league. For 11 offensive snaps and 17 special teams snaps I'd say hes being used just fine for what he makes.

I am not liking the snap counts for Tolbert and Flournoy. With Tolbert getting 33 to Flournoy's 19, it looks like Flournoy may be the odd man out when Mingo returns. That would be a shame.

Mazi had 28 snaps and that seems like a good number for him. After rewatching the game last night, and focusing on Mazi, I think his problem is he just does not give a good effort. There is no urgency, intensity or violence to his game. He made one play where he tackled the RB and when the RB tried to resist, Mazi slammed him to the ground showing he has strength. But he doesn't look like he enjoys playing football. I wonder if they could light a fire under him, or maybe as he matures he will understand better, if he might become a pretty good player one day. But, he might be one of those guys who plays because he doesn't have anything else to do for a living. If this is the case, one day he will wake up out of football with a lot of regrets.

I like Brock Hoffman, but the last two games I thought he struggled a bit more than usual. I also wonder if TJ Bass who was I believe 2nd in the league among guards in the fewest pressures allowed, is the better player. Beebe will be back soon so I might be moot.

After a defensive series in the second half, most of the players quickly jogged off the field (the ones in the camera view). But Mazi just casually walked off. It was the same level of energy he gives on most plays.

This is what it looks like when he plays. I don't like to criticize players for effort because only they know how hard they try. But what it looks like with Mazi is he does not have that extra motivation it takes to excel at this level. I can see why the coaches might bench him. Lack of effort is inexcusable.

Maybe they think benching him from time to time can motivate him. It's too bad because if they can get him motivated to play, I think he can be a lot better than he is showing right now. I wonder if he is demoralized after getting off to a rough start in Dallas. Or maybe because they made him lose 40 lbs as a rookie only to ask him to regain it the next year only to ask him to lose it again this year. And, through all that he hasn't gotten any better. You just hate to see a first round draft pick go down like this.

But as I said, He has shown improvement. He stays square to the LOS now, he mostly holds his ground even against double teams.. But he doesn't get off blocks quick enough, or locate the ball. I don't know what it is. Maybe he is just dumb or something. But I do think if they can unlock him he has the physical tools to be a good player.

I think he just isn't good enough. NFL football is, obviously, the best of the best, the best in the world, at their craft. Only a tiny percentage are good enough to do it. And weight room strength and bounding up stairs isn't enough.
