I need to go back and look at the snaps Waletzko played. I thought based on very few snaps at LT as a rookie that he was going to develop into at least a decent backup. Then, we moved him over to RT and he struggled. The shoulder injuries have also been a setback.

Both him and Ball have been better than what fans think of them overall when they play certain positions — Ball at RG and Waletzko at LT. Not sure either will ever get a starting shot anywhere, but they could bounce around as backups in this league.
Neither one will ever be even a decent starter and its quite questionable that they will ever be decent depth

I don't necessarily disagree. I think Ball has played well at right guard in the preseason, but have no idea if it would stand up in the regular season. Same with Waletzko at LT in the preseason. It's hard to tell when they are going against other players who may never see a regular-season snaps if they would stand a chance against starters. That's one reason I badly wanted to see our depth play these last few games. Now, when we stand little chance of making the postseason, is the time to see if these guys can handle it. Forget about Chuma Edoga at LT when Guyton is nursing an injury, put Waletzko out there. Call up Ball to be the backup guard instead of inserting Edoga ... or even sit Smith, since we absolutely know what he can do and let Ball get some snaps.

The problem is they already had one and wasted a second rounder on one when they could’ve found one later.
You're not wrong.

I didn't understand the pick. But, if McCarthy planned on running more 12 personnel then I can understand it better.

Also, I'm good with picking the best player on the board regardless of what is currently on the roster. Figure out how to get the player on the field. Now, was Schoonmaker the BPA is the question.

BPA is tricky. Because I'm typically for it. I believe you grab the best player and figure out what to do with them later. But the last position I do it for was tight end at the time. But either way its happened. I'm more pissed at the fact they liked the guy enough to draft him but not to play him until an injury happened. Just very weird.

I'm afraid the issue with this team and drafting is two many cooks in the kitchen. And one of the biggest issues is they keep drafting tight ends when they already have one and do it high. They had Witten and wasted picks on Fasano and Bennett. Had Hendershot and Ferguson and drafted Schoon. There's nothing in sight that shows they even have any intentions on using 12 personnel so I don't what's going on.

We tend to excel against 3-10 teams lol.
as usual negativity without any context,

I mean, where is the context Once again, you realize that we were underdogs on the road, and most people picked us to lose

we brought in basically a preseason roster, especially on offense just not like we were some kind of powerhouse going they’re beating up on bad teams, but we literally were underdogs you want to like go back and check that how people thought we were so bad and we were so injured that we were 3 1/2 point underdogs against that team .that’s sad for them that they lost….

It’s just to make sure you understand that we are playing with a back up team, but our last four weeks outside of a muffed punt, we basically would’ve been 4~0 and that was against beating Washington who is a playoff team in a surging Bengals team,

I mean we were supposed to get flat blown out by them and what happened was we made the big mistake to lose that game and shouldn’t have just imagine you being so negative and hard even though our back ups are playing very maximum effort very hard, and you just have to come down on him like usual you’re negative you’re an absolutely negative person.

Positive thing you can take from this stretches are depth. We have some pretty solid death all across the board and that’s gonna be good going in the next year they got all these reps.

Missed the snaps last week vs bengals…
This week‘s snaps and what they show….
  • Cowboys ran 73 plays compared to 55 for panthers.
  • Lots of young guys played…like Matt Waletzko who had 9 snaps at T.
  • Interesting that Chauncey Goldston had the most DL snaps with 49; Odighizhua had 43.
  • Good to see Deron Bland played all 55 snaps.
  • Mazi Smith only had 18 snaps.
What did you notice?

More like what I din notice.
But letting the young guys share snaps is great! How else to gauge them?
Show me a coach who subs in young guys and experiments with personnel and I will show you a thinking coach who is not lazy.

I believe Waletzko was playing LG in trash time just to get him some snaps.
That's good, but I don't think he's a guard. He's like 6-8. Of course, Ball has played better at guard than at tackle (at least in the preseason) and he's 6-7.

I still wish they'd run more 12 and even 13 personnel and throw Schoon the ball more. Don't think he even got a target vs Carolina.

And yes, I've noticed Schottenheimer has been heavy on the praise for Spann-Ford all year,.

I don't think a lot of Tolbert and I'd rather put one of these TEs on the field than him, at least more often than we have.
Well, I'd rather have Turpin out there than any of them, but I agree that I'd prefer the TEs and FB to the other backup receivers.

honestly we should sit Tyler and steel and give the young kids as much playing time as possible to see what they got

Agreed. Don't think we'll do it, though, even if we're eliminated, but it just makes sense. Tyler and Steele have nothing to prove; we know what they are at this point. The younger players need to play. We definitely don't need Edoga out there. He might not even be on the team next year since he's not under contract next season.

Golston has been very good vs the run.
- He often plays 2-gap at DE similar to a 3-4 DE.
- Playing 2-gap 4-3 DE became a topic back when Red Bryant (6-4, 320) did it for Seattle.
- High effort player with great length (6-5, 34-3/4" arms, 84-3/8" wingspan).

Golston started game 5 and all games since then.
- He played 80% or more snaps in all but one of those starts.
- His max was 95%.
- He became a starter when DLaw got injured.
- In the Panthers game he played some snaps inside.
