Cowboys find a way to win another ugly but meaningful game…A win is a win.
Here are the snap counts from the game. Some things that stood out:
  • This was a game where many of the young and new Cowboys played very well.
  • The Cowboys had 76 snaps to the Steelers 58.
  • DeMarvion Overshown played all 58 defensive snaps and was all over the field making plays.
  • Jalen Tolbert had an excellent game, caught the game winning TD, and played 68 snaps, 2 more than Lamb.
  • The new corner Oruwarlye also played all 58 defensive snaps.
  • Tyler Smith is to be commended for playing 53 snaps at LT when Guyton went down and 23 snaps at LG. His versatility has been critical.
What else?

Grandad Schoonmaker needs to be traded for some DE help. Turpin is a better player than Cooks. Guyton needs to spend some time on the sidelines. He's not ready. Reserving judgment on Oruwariye. But he's long and looked the part.

A couple of things. I see people clamoring for Tyler Smith to play LT and while agree that might be our best option...people that think we will do that either do not pay attention or do not understand how Jerry operates. For starters....LT will cost more and Jerry is banking on having to play Tyler Smith LG money. Secondly, Jerry loves to have his football IQ validated, so he is not going to bench Guyton who he just spent a 1st round pick on. Lastly, I see people wanting Guyton moved to RT and Steele sent to the bench. Again, if you are cashing Jerry's checks, you are going to earn it (whether it hurts the team or not). Steele will not ride the bench because he has a pocket full of Jerry's money.

Not saying that people's outlook on the aforementioned scenarios is incorrect, but there is "what makes the best football sense" and "what makes the best business sense"...and what makes the best "business sense" will always take precedence with the Jones boys

Who would trade for him?

If Guyton is hurt they will have no choice.

Huge kudos to Overshown. I've been pretty down on him in the run game, but he has been very good the last couple of weeks. No way Zimmer can take him off the field at this point.

The DE usage is interesting to see. Nice job from these guys yesterday, but I would be lying if I said I was confident in the trio of Golston/Wheat/Lawson again against the Lions.

Though OSA had another nice game as well. His snap count didn't really change much but the assignments seem different. The last couple of weeks it seems like Zimmer is letting these interior guys just focus on penetration and having the ends play a more traditional techniques and keeping their rush lanes and outside contain. Previous weeks it seemed like there were a lot more gap exchange concepts up front with the DEs jumping inside.

He should be starting IMO.........he's all over the field, playing with a ton of heart and passion.

It was an awesome win Bob any way you slice it. I will enjoy your weekly revisions.

Don’t disagree with you Blue. But his paycheck is what makes him a starter. And I’m not joking at all. Our owner hates to pay guys and not play them. So Wilson will be out there. He’s certainly been inconsistent and I’m not sure we have a ton of coverage talent behind him.

I’m on the road so won’t be able to write much until tonight or tomorrow.
