What happens now? Does the defense jump offsides every time L.P snaps or does he change his technique? What about the next 55 yard field goal attempt? He's not changing now, he'd done it the same way for over 10 years. As of Nov 2017 he had never missed a game and made clean snaps on 873 punts, 387 field goals, and 550 PATs, in a row including the playoffs.

NFL is going to have to admit they screwed up and they should (they won't) investigate the ref who made the call... Like maybe his ties to Vegas bookies or maybe he's a closet Skins fan who knows.

Ok the NFL screwed up. Not nearly as bad as Garrett’s management of the last 52 seconds. They had a FD on skins 37 with 52 seconds left and yet somehow only managed to run two plays.

The NFL should have never been in position to cost us the game.

IMO the refs panicked.

Kerrigan jumped and was “drawn” off. One of those one in a million calls that go against us, never to be called again.

Remember when we lost the game because our defender “jumped over” the blocker? Yeah. Never been called again

I can't disagree but that's a different point. On another separate point, the NFL shouldn't be allowed to make game changing calls inside two minutes without a review.

I hope this thread does not get mired down in the same old ‘blaming the referees is sad’ excuse. There is never a problem pointing out an official making an erroneous call or not calling fouls occurring right in front of them.

Who knows what would have happened in overtime. And yes, coaching miscues happened throughout the game. Quarterback gets too much of the blame yet again. Regardless, the list of what went wrong is long but this key moment in the game should not be buried as an excuse by people who do not care.

It is equally valid. It should not have been called. The question is WHY was it called? What happened during that mini-referee conference before the call was announced? What could any of them had said to each other to make that call? The whole thing smells like fish laying on a sidewalk in 100 degree heat

lol. Panicked? They got together first before announcing the penalty. There was ample time to calmly decide what did the guy see who THREW the flag. No. Panic does not smell kosher to me at all.

It’s 100% horse ****

Best way to explain it is when the offensive lineman jumps because of the defender

I too thought it was a bad call. But the good coaches I had growing up always taught us that blaming the refs for a loss is for losers.

horse-**** call.

I saw a ton of holding calls the Dallas o'line got away with. Still a bad call at the worst time, but I imagine the game is long over had the refs made all the calls they missed.

Or that Brice Butler illegal substitution penalty that had never been called before or after

Here we go.

My coaches said the same thing. However, my coaches said do not blame others for what you could have accomplished through greater effort and execution. None of them said or meant to be blind about something completely out of our control.

Coaches, including the best coaches, sometimes point out questionable calls also. Is that a contradiction or acknowledgement of something happening in a game outside their control?

To be entirely honest, I haven't seen that call enough to know whether or not it was good or bad but it looks like a really bad call. Even if I assume it was the worst call ever, I honestly think there's a bigger problem at hand. The team had plenty of time to get the kick closer and they didn't. Even if a coach were to lay up and play for OT, that coach should still try to make the kick as sure as possible. Garrett didn't. He sat on a long FG just like he did against Baltimore a number of years back. He pussed out yet again, and the team lost yet again.

Jason Garrett just doesn't have the mindset to lead a team. He is far too risk averse, and the only reason he has a job right now is because Tony Romo carried his timid *** for years on end. Given Garrett's career, I'm not sure any coach has ever done so little and gotten so far. No other organization would have tolerated his failures in hopes that he would finally figure something out about a game his entire life revolved around. People like to talk about "football guys"...you know, individuals who's entire lives have been nothing but football. Usually it's a compliment, but when you see a guy make the same mistakes over and over after a lifetime of football exposure, you have to start questioning whether or not the guy actually "gets it".

Well said...But again, we didn’t lose this game because of the refs. Maher could have made a better kick. The Cowboys could have awakened earlier than the last 4 minutes to make plays on offense. The list could go on and on.

I don't blame the refs for the loss, I blame them for a "chance" at OT. They should not be allowed to make that call inside two minutes without a challenge/review, and there's $50 million reasons why I say that.

To my thinking in the kicking game on punts and FG attempts. The center should be given a better chance to grip the ball correctly as it looked like LP was doing.

Reminder the kicking balls are not worked over like the game balls.

Yes, and there was also an illegal block in the back against Washington that was not called on their long TD screen pass. It was ridiculous. Not even the announcers mentioned it, but the defenders hand was right in the middle of the numbers of our defender...I think it was Lee.

So the refs muffed a call. It cost us five yards. Big deal. The kicker should have still made the kick. It was well within his range. He has a hook on all of his kicks and he just pulled it a little left.

The Cowboys never gave up even when they were down 10 points with 5 min to go. There are a lot of games left and there will be more questionable calls by the officiating crews. Got to deal with them and move on. The holding penalties hurt us badly.

A bad call is a bad call and the refs and league should be held accountable for one that changes the complexion of a game, especially in the last seconds. If they never called it in his previous 2000 snaps why make that call now?
