OK, First off, I think the Plagueis theory makes sense, but I have an alternate theory that I have not seen anywhere.
Plagueis Pros: He's already canon from that conversation at the Opera in Ep3. His storyline includes "beating death.
Plagueis Cons: Lucasfilm shot it down and said Snoke not a Sith.
Now for my off the wall, random, weakly supported idea.
Mace Windu
Pros:
1. Sam Jackson thinks he's alive and George was fine with it. (Link 1 Link 2). Yes, neither has any control over future plotlines,but no one has come out and shot it down. Quote : “I was trying to figure out, ‘Really? Can’t you just, like, injure me—whatever?’” Jackson said. “But in my mind, I’m not dead! Jedi can fall incredibly high distances and not die.”
2. As seen with Luke's hand, some decent prosthetics are available, even if he's worse for wear in TFA, why not an arm. The other damage could be accounted for from the fall and any horrific chemical treatments, burns and age. Granted, he's a little pale, but we also only saw a hologram which isn't accurate. After all, Palpatine is blue in Ep5.
3. He is not a Sith, but was betrayed by a trusted Jedi, which could lead to some serious anger issues. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering and all that.
4. It has been stated that Snoke has been around to see the rise and fall of Palpatine, which Windu has.
Cons:
1. He'd have to have suffered some serious damage to not look like Sam Jackson. Aside from being bald, he's not very close.
2, About a dozen other things that anyone could list.
In the end, it's not a great theory, but I think it's better than the Vader idea since that undoes the whole arc of Eps 4,5,6 with Vader's redemption and Vader was also burned to ash.
That's cool idea.
It's not happening but cool nonetheless.
I saw same video with Samuel L and he said Lucas wanted to kill mace and he did.
Vader redemption... Or was it.
Reminds me of, "every time I try to get out... They pull me back in".... There is no out.... No redemption. Hahaha!
