What makes it great is a long tradition and a rabid fan base. I imagine that matters to people who love football.

A long tradition of winning strike shorten seasons and fans who cross dress as pigs.

Yeah, who wouldn't want that job.

The Giants have to offer him like $10 million a year to stay. Ok, maybe not that much but they have to do whatever it takes to keep him.

Commanders to interview Spagnuolo on Tuesday

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Washington Commanders, entering the final stage of their coaching search, tentatively plan to interview New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo on Tuesday, a person familiar with the selection process said.

The person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Commanders have not publicly released the names of any candidates, also said Sunday that New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is no longer in the running for the job.

Owner Dan Snyder told reporters in Arizona over the weekend that he hopes to have a coach in place within a week. Snyder is seeking a replacement for Joe Gibbs, who resigned Jan. 8.

When asked about the candidates, Snyder gave a special mention to Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Ron Meeks, who was a Commanders assistant in 2000. Snyder was responding when asked whether it would correct to list Meeks, Jim Fassel and Steve Mariucci as the leading contenders.

"You'd be close," Snyder said, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. "I'm a big fan of Ron Meeks. He's a heck of a coach."

Former San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions coach Mariucci was interviewed for the first -- and so far only -- time on Wednesday, according to the person familiar with the process. Fassel and Meeks have both had at least three meetings with Snyder.

Spagnuolo, widely praised for putting together the defense that got the Giants to the Super Bowl, would be seeking his first head coaching job. The Commanders had to wait until after Sunday's game to formally seek permission to interview him.

An interview with snyder and cerrato might be just enough to keep him in ny.

His defense in ny will not get worse, it will get better next year and that will only lead to more jobs, him and Jason Garrett will be the top candidates for head coaching spots next year.

Maybe josh mcdaniels would like a do over on not taking interviews?

sorry just becuase you have a rabid fan base does not mean its a premiere coaching job across the league, yeah maybe it appears premier to its delusional fans, but otherwise, no.

and no one thinks of Washington when you think of Football tradition...well no one outside of the "rabid" (apparently) fan base.

:laugh2:your living in a dream world my friend...just because its important to you does not mean its one of the premier coaching jobs in the league

I would consider Premier coaching jobs: Green Bay, Dallas, San Fransisco, and Pittsburgh....

sorry your team just isn't that relevant, important or prominent outside of its little fan base, come on back to reality.
Oh yeah, San Fran is a dream coaching job... After all, didn't they get the Washington def coord castoff? Whether you like it or not, the Skins coaching job used to be among the premiere coaching positions. Now, I'm not so sure.

It was a top flight job until snyder bought the team.

He has done nothing but burn bridges and rub peoples nose in his money.

He follows whatever Jerry Jones does and then mimicks it a year or two after.

Putting vinny cerrato in charge of your team will keep top flight people away from the organization for years.

Dallas better get ready for the NFC east to blitz a lot. If Snyder gives Steve Spagnuolo the head coach job with the skins, we will have 6 games a year with constant blitzes. This will be interesting. I still think the Dallas OL is one of the worst against the blitz and if they handle that than they can't run block. I believe this is the players fault more than coaches, but we will see this next season.

If Spagnuolo accepts the job....does Capers end up in NY?

I hope not.

Spagnulo would make sense as he's the hot assistant right now, if they didn't already havetheir OC and DC in place.

As dumb as Snyder is, I figured whoever the HC would be, either Fassel or Mooch, that he had already signed off on these hires. If in fact Danny has already hired the coordinators without the HC having input, then he really is an even bigger moron than I thought.
