Could we cut Free after a restructure after June 1st, as long as it is nothing more than a cut in base salary, absolutely.

The problem with cutting Free, is, that as of right now, we have noone on our roster to backup Parnell. And we certainly can't go into the draft counting of an OT capable of playing as a rookie being available in the middle of round 2.

If you can get Free to take a substantial paycut, to where his salary is reasonable for a backup and if the staff is sold on Parnell being our RT of the future. You are much better off financially with keeping Free on the roster, with a substantial paycut. Then you get the significant savings, you don't open up the major hole at backup RT, and you don't have to have the dead money hanging over you next year.

we can't answer these questions until we know details of the restructure.

if they handed free 5m in SB to lower his base he won't be getting cut. that'd be insane. also why bother doing that at all if they don't need that money???

maybe they've been working with free to reduce the base this year via a pay cut. something along the lines of a 3m base this year guaranteed but 4m given back to the team. in that scenario free probably comes to camp as the starting rt but has to hold his job.
