According to Rich McKay, in 2011 NFL Kickoff returns dropped by 53% from the 2010 numbers.

Concussions dropped 40% in 2011.

And Buehler was cut because his one dimensional kicking-ability was no longer needed in Dallas. Sittimg with an extra roster spot, I'd say it worked out jut fine for Dallas.

I keep forgetting we have an extra roster spot now. Extra DB or extra OL.

Imagine if we cut Beuhler last year - coulda kept Josh Thomas.

Could've kept Tanner on the active roster. We really couldv'e used him down there at hte end with the other RBs being banged up.

They ended up putting Tanner on IR, I believe.

How would it not work? They eliminated the play. That's like saying you can't go for it on a 4th and one and then saying that concussions dropped on 4th and one.

It's great that the concussions dropped but I'm not convinced that moving the kickoffs had that much to do with it. It seems like that there were a lot more with defenseless recievers than there ever were on kickoffs

Buehler went on IR 11/10.

Tanner went on IR 12/9.

That and a flux capacitor will get you Post of the Day.

Surprised? :laugh2: Call me one not shocked to see that cuncussions went down 40% on KO's. That's should be expected.

Really.

It's one of the worst rule changes I've ever seen in any sport.

The numbers(40% drop in concussions) were just for the concussions that occurred on kickoffs.

... I couldn't agree with you more.

Then I'd say the answer to Hos's question is "yes".

Anyone know the numbers for rate of touchbacks vs. the previous year?

so you also believe the Buehler was taking up a roster spot a month after going on IR.

How much of eliminating the wedge helped

Returns dropped 53%. Concussions dropped 40%. And the interest level in watching kickoffs dropped 64%. They now rate only behind extra point attempts on the ho-hum factor.

Yeah, looks like overall only 28 fewer concussions were reported.

I like how he didn't give numbers either.

I wanna know what the rate of concussions is per play on kickoffs and per play on other plays.

Take out contact in nearly all the rest of the plays in the game and I bet concussions go down as well.

Now I really wanna see the numbers because the stats at NFL.com don't show a decrease by half in kick returns.
