All I know if that defense comes to play in the regular season will be scary good. I literally said "holy **** " during that play, didn't know what happened.

The stats show Lee with the Sack which cannot be correct if Hatcher caused the fumble

Looks to me like Hatcher caused the fumble.

Yeah, it is. Hatcher was pushed by the QB and just as he was going by, he reached out and swatted the ball out of the QB's hand. At about the same instant, Lee blindsided the QB, violently knocking him to the ground.

At regular speed, it looked like Lee cold-cocked the QB and knocked the ball out, but on replay, you could see Hatcher swat it out a split second before Lee hit the QB.

So technically, it wasn't a sack for Lee, but a sack/fumble for Hatcher.

If Hatcher caused the fumble then the QB was sacked at the same time. It is a sack fumble. Ware gets them all the time. With this being so close I'd think both would be credited with .5 of a sack.

Technically, it shouldn't have been recorded as a sack for Lee, because Hatch did cause the fumble.

Why we need a thread to clarify all this, i do not know.. why does it matter at all?

Because Lee was credited with the sack when it should've been Hatcher, preseason or no.

Who cares about preseason stats? Lee has no sacks in the regular season which he needs to work on. I think he will get a few this year.

Hatcher was in beast mode that night.

It's been amusing hearing the guys on Talking Cowboys come around on Hatcher. Prior to the preseason they wouldn't get off Hatcher back about how he's a situational player that you can't rely on, that he makes one play and then disappears for long stretches, that he's being played out of position, etc.

Over the last couple of weeks though, you start to hear them flip their story a bit and compliment him more and more.

Hatcher has been a underthought in this defense for a while. Him, Ware and Lee are what makes this defense run.

Over the last two years he has probably been our best player on defense after Ware and Lee but ahead of Rat and Spencer.

He is on a ridiculous contract and we should really be trying to extend him. He looks like he still has a lot of tread on his tires because of how much time in his career he spent as a part-time player and because he played small Division football.

I would be comfortable at 3 years $12M, $5M bonus. At his age and after the last really stingy FA period that may be enough to entice him to forego a shot at FA. He has never really had a true monster payday as a 3rd rounder who got a couple of small tenders and then 3 years, $6M in FA in 2011 while we gave Spears 5 years, $20M. Shows what the FA knew about the players on their roster. Glad Hatcher got no offers because we did not have much money and he has been very valuable to us.

Realistically, if he were 26 he would be looking at $8M per year based on his play the last couple of years.

Can't wait to see Spencer and Rat added to the mix

This is the most important issue going further when it concerns the defense. I don't think we're going to get especially great play out of the secondary this year, but I think that front seven can do a lot of damage and make things easier for them.

Hatcher is the most underrated and underappreciated player on this team. Has been for years. Along with Spencer. Hatcher also has a lot left in him. I say we definitely lock Hatcher up. We can get him for relatively cheap. What we need to look for (with our 1st round pick next year) is Ratliff's replacement. As much as I love Rat, we needed his replacement yesterday. The DEs Ware and Spencer have a few years left in them, but we do need to start looking for their replacements soon. However, I would make replacing Ratliff a top priority.

Wow. From this angle that hit looked straight up vicious, you know he was hurting after that play. Even if Sean Lee didn't cause the fumble it still doesn't take anything away from him, the kid is a baller. I'm excited to see him/bruce this year playing together, we're going to have one sick LB core.

Ware got stonewalled on that play.
