Has anyone confirmed this because to me it looks like it was Doug Free's fault.

Doug Free should have came off of his man to protect his inside and Gronk should've picked up Free's man.

Gronkowski was beat by the alignment and play design.

Thats on Doug Free or just awful play design vs that blitz.

That was clearly Gronks fault and he knew it as soon as it happened. Free did his job, the rookie just missed his assignment...

I don't think so.

Gronk was going outside the whole way so when the LB stunted inside Free and Gronk should've swapped guys.

Free can't let someone go through his inside gap like that.

There is no way Gronkowski could've blocked that man just by play design alone.

That was Gronk's fault and you could even see it during the play.

He looked for someone to block, didn't see anything and took off.

As he passed Free you saw him see Boley blitzing insdie and his body language right then said, "I ****ed up!"

Yeah, but did you see Flozell Adams? Man, he looked terrible out there.

i mean this was bound to happen sooner or later right? the way our OL and whole team is playing, it was a matter of time before Romo was killed back there.

Gronk's job was to pick up any blitzers. If he didn't see one, he was to go out as a check down.

He took off before seeing Boley blitzing. His problem was, he didn't wait long enough because Boley was coming on a delayed blitz.

His 1st step gets him beat right out the gate so his 1st step being what it was means it was designed for him to go outside.

The LB saw that and shot through the hole between Free and Holland.

It's like a twist and when they twist like that you have to swap guys.

2 things

1) It WAS Gronkowski's fault.

2) Rookies make mistakes.

I'm sure Chris feels horrible right now but at the same time I bet he focuses on his blocking assignments like never before. He'll get better.

not sure what you were looking at but that was Gronk's guy and he blew it. He is a rookie so those type of reads take longer to see, but nevertheless it was his guy. The kid has talent and will only get better so the sting will only last a short while.

EDIT:: just saw your post stating you rewatched it and see now what happened.

I think it was a bad play call as well... with the pressure the Giants were getting, why even send out Gronk on a route. You aren't going to beat the Giants by dumping off the ball to Gronk.

His sole responsibility should have been to stay in and protect Romo, even if no blitzers are coming. Give Romo and our receivers time to get open and make a play down the field.

That's not how blitz pickup works.

When your left tackle has a defensive end lined up off his outside shoulder, that's his man. He can't worry about switching off to a potential inside blitzer, or he'll never be able to block the end. (And all the linebacker would have to do is fake a blitz and drop back, and the left tackle would be standing there doing nothing while the defensive end runs over the fullback.) If there's a back in the backfield to pick up the blitz, he has to step up and take any blitzer on his side of the field, whether it's inside or outside.

It was either Gronkowski's fault, or Romo knew that the back would be releasing early and didn't get rid of it soon enough.

When we were watching it I was thinking man I hope Tony does one of his go to basketball spin moves and makes that guy miss before he throws this one. You could just tell he was going to get killed.

I tend to believe the former....

Gronks job wasns't to pick up a particular pass rusher, he was supposed to pick up whichever pass rusher, if any, penetrated into the backfield. Accordingly, he is the guy that missed his assignment.

Even so - so what? It's not like he's the only football player that missed assignments yesterday, and dam sure not the only Cowboy. This one just happened to have a more unfortunate result than others.

Gronk had a read to make and bolted too soon. Boley made a textbook blitz, timing it correctly and we paid the price for it. It was a blatantly bad execution by Gronk and expect his playing time to go way down because we can't afford to get another QB hurt.

Does it matter that the coaches scheme was a recipe for failure? Some still want RED to get his shot? No thanks you dont put your players in a position of failure thats the first job of a coach and RED blows it over and over again. I said no better than 3-13 after the skins and I am sticking to it I have yanked off the rose colored glasses since last years loss to Minny. I need to see some proof that there is competency somewhere on this team starting at the top! I 'll always be a fan and always tune in its in my blood and I feel horrible about it but I aint no longer gonna just sit here and take it without calling it like it is ....YOU MAKE THE CALL LOL
