So have we played the early 53 man roster game?

I apologize for the length. A lot of this is just ramblings. Early guess at the 53. I suspect there will be some guys added via FA at some point like at S.

- I'll be honest, I was using the past few years initial 53 as a guide but I think there are going to be some very interesting battles. Last year we carried 7 LBs on the initial 53 but I can't come up with 5. Covington will be hard pressed to make the team IMO, for example. So they may need to find another cheap LB in FA after cuts, most likely.

- There's been talk they want 3 QBs, so that would mean they'd have to take a spot from somewhere else. They carried 4 TBs last year, but I could see them carrying 3 with Austin as an option at WR.

- WR is very interesting as well. They initially carried 6 and I can't figure out how Brown breaks through that 6 listed below unless someone gets traded or cut. Could Austin or Thompson be fighting for one spot?

- DL is going to be interesting to watch. Last year we carried 4 DEs and 4 DTs to open the season. With Armstrong and Ealy, that would bring us to 4 DEs already before you factor in Tapper or Gregory. But considering both are quick twitch guys, I suspect if one shows something, they would make the roster. Plus you have Irving as a swing guy at DE. Then at DT, you have five names now assuming Irving is listed as a DT. I wonder if they could/should have waited on Ealy?

- We carried 6 CBs last year (And in previous years), but I could only come up with 5 so it looks like we may grab a cast off at some point here.

QB (3) - Prescott, Rush, White
RB (3) - Elliott, Scarborough, Smith
FB (1) - Olawale
TE (4) - Swaim, Jarwin, Gathers, Schultz
WR (6) - Hurns, Williams, Beasley, Gallup, Thompson, Austin
OT (4) - Smith, Collins, Fleming, Green
OG (3) - Martin, Williams, Martin
C (1) - Frederick

DE (4) - Lawrence, Charlton, Armstrong, Ealy
DT (5) - Collins, Irving, Crawford, Ward, Price
LB (6) - Lee, Smith, LVE, Wilson, Thomas, FA
S (4) - Woods, Heath, Frazier, FA
CB (6) - Awuzie, Jones, Lewis, Brown, White, FA

Specialists (3) - Bailey, Jones, Ladouceur

1. Don't think we go with 4 TEs. Rico out.
2. Use Austin as the fill in for moving Rico.
3. Add Brown to WR for Austin. Remove Williams and add Wilson
4. Green, IMO, doesn't make the cut at OT. And we will most likely go 9 deep there.
5. We may go lite at CB since Woods could play dime corner in a pinch

Couple comments.

- We carried 4 TEs to start the 2017 season. I don't think they will give up on Gathers' talent unless he totally bombs this offseason or shows signs of head issues.

- For the last two years, they've only carried 8 OL on the initial 53. I could see Looney for Green, though.

- Are you trading Williams? Because he's not getting cut, especially for a 6th round WR. There's no cap incentive to do that. I think Wilson ends up on the practice squad.

- Good point on Woods.

Looney instead of Green, please God. Chaz Green will probably never mentally recover from that ATL game

QB (3) - Prescott, Rush, White
Don't be surprised if we only keep 2 QB's. If White and Rush are about the same, do they let one go or try to sneak them on the PS, but will go with 3 for now
RB (3) - Elliott, Scarborough, Smith
Scarbrough to the PS, and Austin will play more the Dunbar role as the 3rd RB. Bo is Darrius Jackson 2.0 to me at this point
FB (1) - Olawale
Yes
TE (4) - Swaim, Jarwin, Gathers, Schultz
Yes, as they like to keep 4 TE's unless one of these just isn't the 53rd best player
WR (6) - Hurns, Williams, Beasley, Gallup, Thompson, Austin
Noah Brown will be the 6th WR, as Austin will be used as the Dunbar role
OT (4) - Smith, Collins, Fleming, Green
OG (3) - Martin, Williams, Martin
C (1) - Frederick
Looney in place of Green, unless they keep 9, but Green is not the 53rd best player at this point

DE (4) - Lawrence, Charlton, Armstrong, Ealy
DT (5) - Collins, Irving, Crawford, Ward, Price
They kept 8 at the start last year, but can see 9 easily this year. I can see Price not making it, if Eay can kick inside too at times. Tapper may get the nod there, but if Gregory returns, aTapper is out. Add Price back in over Tapper if Gregory makes it and they keep 10
LB (6) - Lee, Smith, LVE, Wilson, Thomas, FA
Doubt a FA makes it unless it is Bowman, Covington or even Tre'von Johnson, as he is big with 4.55 speed. Keeping 6 is right, as last year they kept 7, but one was an injured Hitchens as opposed going on IR, and Smith was still unknown
S (4) - Woods, Heath, Frazier, FA
CB (6) - Awuzie, Jones, Lewis, Brown, White, FA
May only keep 9, but 10 is better. Depending on what they do at DL. FA at S, probably, the 5th and 6th CB's, White, Duke Thomas. as for S if not a FA, don't forget they signed a kris Richard guy in Jake Thompson, also Huff
now that I typed that, I think 5 CB's and we go 9 DB's.

Specialists (3) - Bailey, Jones, Ladouceur
Would have bet my house on this trio

If Scarborough goes to the PS, then who are the TBs? Elliott, Smith and Austin?

Bold decision but I believe Kyle Queiro & Kam Kelly will make the 53. Possibly Bowman.

Every year is different. And with Smiths iffy back, I could see them keeping an extra guy to groom.

We ran with 3 TEs for most of the year, until the end when we brought up Jarwin. I think we shift offensive focus from a Witten/TE perspective. I just don't see it working for Rico.

Williams and Bease are complete unknowns right now. I could see both possibly gone. But most likely, Bease stays. I think this broken foot thing of Williams pissed them off. And I'm not so sure he's even ready to start the season, let alone training camp. He could find himself on NFI. Or if healthy, traded.

And if a young guy shows more long term promise, even straight out cutting him could be done. We have the cap space to eat it, especially if we replace his salary with that of a rookie like Wilson.

There will be a lot of really good position battles come training camp.

I think there's a better chance of Garrett being the next great coach in NFL history than of the Cowboys cutting T. Williams.

I think Duke Thomas gas a good chance at CB over a FA. They really liked him last year before he got placed on IR.

A lotta folks said they would never cut Dez either. Don't know if you were one of them.
