My wife and I watch some of those "fixer-upper" kind of shows, where someone trades in a 1,600 square-foot house for some "monster" that is 3,000+ square-feet with 3 1/2 baths...

And we remark to each other "How the heck do you keep a house that size clean?" Provided of course you don't have a maid service come in on a regular basis– And I'm sure most of these folks on TV do not– Gosh it seems they have to rummage through the living-room furniture to get that last buck to make the math work!

We live in a house that 1,600 square-feet, a bath and a half (the house was built in 1888) and it's job just keep this one clean and there's only the two of us.

I couldn't imagine trying to keep a 3,000+ square-foot house with all those bathrooms clean. Just the vacuuming and dusting is going to be on-going... We clean our bath and 1/2 once a week– if it goes more than that... Ewe-nasty! And we don't have any kids living here.

It's got to be about a full-time job keeping a house that size clean– maybe they just don't!

Gotta figure of they got the money for the house, probably have the money for a maid service.

I I pattern my housecleaning from my time in the Marines. In the Marines you do a quick tidying up daily and once a week a full blown white glove style cleaning. As a home owner I give a room a day a once over ( basic stuff like dusting and a good sweep) and every other Saturday spend a good 2 to 3 hours giving the house a thorough cleaning.

I need this answered myself. I have a 1600+ sq ft house with 5 kids 10 and under. It's a full-time job trying to keep it resembling clean. Especially the bathrooms. Let's just say they are no Chris Kyle come morning time...

I had a 3100 sq foot home and didn't find it much different from cleaning my 1800 sq ft. Of course, I really didn't use two of the rooms.

The answer is, you don't always. Even if you have a cleaning service come in once a week, it's never "Always" clean. If you have kids, forget about it. 3 dogs, 2 cats, 5 kids. The Wife and I would start on one side of the house and clean to the other and by the time we were finished, it would be time to start all over again.

Our house is 3000 sq. feet. 2 dogs and a cat and is a major task keeping the damn thing clean. Thank God we have plans to sell it in 5 years or so and just move to the camp permanently.
