As I was "chewing" on the 1-point win over Philly and the upcoming draft, it suddenly struck me that we may not be discussing another Cowboy win or loss for many, many months. I'm not talking about the typical 7-month lag between the end of the season and the first pre-season game, but something potentially much longer due to a potential lock-out or work stoppage.

So what is the over/under on threads created over the next few months (year?) that discuss the NFL labor situation?

Interesting question. The number of threads will be larger relative to the length of the lockout. Also, the number of threads per diem on the situation will vary given the intensity of the situation at various points in time.

We're about 7 months away from the start of when a normal preseason would begin. My guess is that the lockout will cost us the month of preseason games and that the players will fold when it starts costing them real gamechecks the next month. That's approximately 240 days. Given an average of 1.5 threads per day on the subject, my guess is:

360 threads.

You're assuming that both sides will negotiate responsibly.


I don't see it working out that way.

I also don't think these guys on either side care much about the fans. It's all about $$ and who's going to get the better "deal".

I agree.

It's going to get downright nasty I'm sure.

I tend to stand on the side of the players personally, I know they get paid a lot - but this is a very dangerous game. And I've never seen any owners or front office folks that can't walk after their career is over.

I just know that everyone that is 'unbiased' and 'outsiders' in this whole ordeal, is going to do everything they can in their power - to help the two sides agree.

I doubt the season will get underway as scheduled next fall. I hope they get in half the games. I am mentally prepared for the eventuality of no pro football next year.

I really hope they get it straightened out this spring but I see little to no chance of that happening. Both sides have been preparing for a long hard battle and there's too much at stake to think it will be resolved quickly and easily.

The union has to hold out long enough for the rank and file to believe they are doing their best to represent them. The owners will want to make their case without opening up their books.

I hope I am wrong about this but I think this is going to be the most difficult CBA negotiation in pro football history. The money just keeps getting bigger.

I was listening to the radio the other day and they made a decent point. Saying it seems like the owners know something because all the firings. If there was going to be a strike a lot of teams might have held on to their coaches. Especially teams like Denver who will be paying 3 head coaches next year.

It will be a strike. Not a lock out. Lockouts pertain to unions which the players have already voted to decertify. Once that happens, the players are on their own to negotiate individually if they like. They won't however. And at that point, it becomes a strike with those players who are under current contracts.

I think they'll get it done, too much at stake for both sides.

And Jerry kinda let it slip the other tday that he felt like a new deal would get done. We can all hate him as GM, but when it comes to anything business related with the team or the league, nobody is better than he is.

There will be 500 threads, at least, in the next few months asking questions, complaining, discussing, and everything else in between the CBA negotations.

I am really hopeful that they get this thing done sooner, rather than later, cause I'll be pretty pissed off if these guys lockout and football is not played next fall. I'll be pissed if it's even cut short in anyway cause of this.
