So How Will Sam Hurd Do...?

this is the type of story that could go either way. He'll get his playing time - nobody is questioning that. And I think we all realize that Glenn, Crayton in the slot, and our TE's will get most of the action in the passing game. But if Bledsoe and Hurd can hook up a couple times, it gives us that much more firepower.

I try not to think about what would happen if Glenn went down (wouldn't be the first time) and remember TO isn't a young pup anymore. Crayton is apparently back to form again, and I know wer'e all happy to see him making plays again, but watching a young split end develop into a player would be nice to see. We've had them come and go in the last few years, but I just have a feeling Hurd will turn into a player. Anyone else getting that feeling...?

Actually I'm looking forward to seeing what Hurd can do. From what little I know about him: he's taking full advantage of TO's willingness pass along tips re his development, he's smart enough to have learned all 3 WR positions on this team so assume he runs pretty good routes (admittedly that's questionable at this point), he went from little/no ST work to hard hitting tackler--at least on first play of Commanders game-- and looked good enough to make this team as an undrafted rookie WR.

Now all he needs is a chance to show what he can do. I don't expect him to have a break out game but would certainly hope/expect Bledsoe would make a few throws to him since coverage would shift mostly to Glenn, Crayton & Witten.

Plus I'd love to see a young WR really develop on our team into a full fledge NFL WR. That doesn't mean I'm not hoping Crayton has a really good season this year and can really step it up as well. It sure would help our 07 draft if at least 1 of our young 3 WRs (Rector/Hurd/Austin) really show up well in some regular season games.

Frankly, admittedly against all odds I'm hoping all 3 stun us and look good this year to the point where there no need spend a first day pick on a WR--admittedly this probable a pipe dream but it's 4:33 AM Saturday morning and I'm allowed to fantasize.

It will be his coming out party and you won't be able to buy his rookie card on ebay for less than 10.00 for the next week.

Interestingly that Hurd showed up on film at the game. Was that accidental, has happened in the past because of his college play, or did his role as a Cowboys WR bring attention his way?

That would be an excellent game for anyone (Owens and Glenn included)...it would be a dream game for a UDFA rookie in his first start ever. Not saying it would be impossible but it would really be huge if it happened.

A Cowboys player at a High School game will always bring attention in Texas even if he is an undrafted rookie backup. But when he is being discussed as a possible replacement in the next game for a Superstar WR he will draw a LOT of attention.

Well, the bird has to leave the nest and fly sometime.

And sometimes the bird with a lame wing (TO's hand) gives the other bird the opportunity to fly. And I think he will be a strong flyer.

I'm about where you're at. I'm thinking 3 for 25 and possibly a TD.

Julius/Barber will have 2 rushing TDs between them, Glenn will have one deep ball TD, Crayton will have a TD. Cowboys up 28-0 at the half.
Parcells proceeds to run the ball 30 downs in a row in the 2nd half since the game is over and Hurd ends up with 3 catches for 21 yards. 1 first down ball.

Now that's real.
