Hell of a legacy for that kid to live up to.

Bert Jones was a fairly good member of that tree as well.

Yep, I considered adding his pick in between those two.

I think Manning should retire and they should just offer him their HC job.

I thought I had read last week his next had fused or healed just fine.

I think he'll play (for better or worse) until he can't do it anymore and go out on his own terms.

I heard the same thing. I am just saying he has nothing left to prove. Brilliant guy, Colts legacy, lead them in another way.

Destination guesses for Peyton? Mine are: Miami, Denver, Washington and the N.Y. Jets!

Roger Staubach
11-6 Playoffs
5 Superbowls

Troy Aikman
11-4 Playoffs
3 Superbowls

Peyton Manning
9-10 Playoffs
2 Superbowls

Johnny Unitas
6-2 Playoffs
1 Superbowl

Romo has much bigger shoes to fill :p

This is one situation that I really have no idea how it'll play out. You don't draft a guy like Luck to sit and learn, and Peyton IS the face of the franchise. If I'm the Colts with the #1 pick, I think I trade down and grab Matt Barkley or Landry Jones. Those guys I wouldn't feel bad sitting on the bench. I'm sure a team in the top 5 would give the Colts a huge package for the opportunity to draft Luck.

I don't believe Payton will remain a Colt. If healthy, I think he plays elsewhere next season. I listed a number of teams in an earlier post that I think would be landing spots. As for Landry Jones, and I'm a Sooner fan, I don't think he's elite QB material.

Peyton is arguably the best QB of all time.

Pretty sure that's as big as the shoes get.

You can't trade Peyton though. He's an absolute legend. I have friends who live in Tennessee, and I went to visit them a couple years back. Everyone in the area was Colts fans, entirely because of Peyton Manning. The fan base would go crazy, even if they did land Luck. I think most fans want Luck, but don't want to see Peyton leave either. However, Peyton isn't going to be mentoring Luck next season. Luck is going to be starting on Sundays.

Remember Joe Montana?

I don't see any way that his contract lets him play elsewhere.

They're not going to cut him with 100M fresh on the hook and who is going to trade for that if the Colts no longer have faith he can live up to it?

They're only options are to keep him and play him or hope he retires and that there is some sort of reprieve for contracts of players who never set foot on the field after signing them.

I'd almost say that this tutelage of Luck is worth a year or two of keeping him.

I think Luck will learn things with Manning that he would otherwise not learn at all without Manning. At the very least, his developmental process will be expedited by a good amount

Montana wasn't recovering from neck surgery and didn't have a 100M ball-and-chain attached to him. Although I don't think the surgery is that big of a deal as other players have returned from it I do think it's something that teams would consider when combined with his crazy contract.

I'm not sure the Colts could find a suitor if they tried.

Frankly the downside of Manning is his pedestrian personal stats during the playoffs. He probably is the greatest regular season QB in the history of the NFL. But not in the playoffs.

There is a possibility the Colts can cut Peyton after this year and save a lot of money.

The 49ers need to go get Manning.

Ravens too. I know they like Flacco but 3 years of Manning with that defense could possibly land you a title.

I didn't think of the Ravens. But yes, his acquisition would make them very formidable. And I'm not a believer in Joe Flacco, or Mark Sanchez, for that matter!
