So is Doug Free a left tackle?

I'm not a good judge of linemen, but from my perspective he did a pretty good job on his guy all day and made plays in the run game. So why can't he play left tackle?

Any tackle that can run 30 yards downfield is certainly ATHLETIC enough. He seems to be one of those players that doesn't practice that well, but brings his A game on gameday.

I believe he can play LT without a doubt. He has come on strong and replaced Columbo very well and he is super athletic. I think he just needs to add a little strength but i'm very impressed with his play.

who was it that gave the him the ball to spike after a touchdown, Free said what's this ,and someone said SPIKE it ,and he did...that was cool as it gets....

Thats the million dollar question right there. If he is, it would be a HUGE find for us. LT was probably going to be our 1st round pick next year. If we think Free is the guy, and by all indications, it looks like he is, this would be wonderful.

When I saw Free coming from the RT position 30 40 yards downfield blocking, I was in awe.

If we don't go LT in the first round, it may allow us to look into Safety position, or MLB in rd 1.

It was Witten, and it was basically the coolest thing ever. It was a statement saying, "this is our house."

Witten.

Free has definitely displayed the athleticism we have all been hearing about from the coaches. He should be the first one in line to take over left tackle. I get the feeling now that he has had a taste of playing every down he's going to be hard to keep off the field.

Doug Free has played very well. He's pretty darn light on his feet for a big fella. Might do well at LT.

Let's all hope Free is our future left tackle. We need to start looking for Flo's replacement.

I think it said even more than that. It's definitely a move that I don't think we would have seen with this team last year or recent years prior. I think it shows the unity that is essential in winning and what we've all been waiting for.

I wonder if he sits when Columbo returns.

Isn't Brewster considered a LT? And which one of our young linemen has problems with strength? Was it Free or Brewster? Or maybe it was both. Wouldnt' strength be a concern for a LT? Maybe not so much against 3-4 defenses but i'd imagine it would be a concern when playing against defensive ends.

I dunno. I think more than anything it lets Columbo get back to 100% before it's discussed. Columbo is 30 years old (Free is 25) and I have to imagine that Dallas would NOT want to disrupt the flow we have going right now.

Even if Free is our LT of the future, we'll still need to draft an OT this year. Flo is close to 35 now and the only other OT we have is McQuistan (and he'll be a FA next year). Brewter is on our PUP list so who really know what he's got.

In short, we BADLY NEED depth at OT even if Flo stays at LT. if Free takes it over (when and if that happens) we will have ZERO depth.

Yes, I do think Doug Free is the future LT of the Cowboys. I am just not entirely sure if that will begin in 2010 or 2011 season. I think Flo is below average for a league LT right now and injecting Free into the lineup will make us better in pass protection, running the football (especially situations in which he is allowed to pull) and screens (once we work on its execution some more in TC).

BTW, I think one of the reasons the Eagles blitzed less is the screen seems to be becoming a bigger part of our offensive game plan. This will be easier to achieve as we switch to more athletic OLs and continue to draft RBs with better receiving skills. I think the Eagles are rightly afraid of Felix getting the ball on screens and that makes them pull back a bit compared to before.

Below average? Are you factoring in penaltites? Because he's still solid. And I look at Jason Peters who everyone thinks the world of and if we base it strictly on play on the field Flozell is a better LT than him. Left tackle isn't some position you can just bring in any guy and have him contribute off the back so i'd be a bit cautious on wanting to put Flozell out there on the street.

I think Brewster is being looked at RT and guard. We'll have to see next year in TC and preseason. If he can play tackle, you groom him for tackle because they are harder to find.

Strength isn't the biggest concern for LTs. The biggest things needed are quickness, footwork, long arms and balance. It is hard to find guys who are big and strong enough yet have the quickness and footwork to play the position.

At the very least, he is already a good RT. I think he'll be better at LT and is better than Flo.

Peters isn't all that good either. He is living off rep.

Flo gives up lots of pressures and sacks and takes lots of penalties. He has lost a step he couldn't afford to lose and is now a big liability against speed rushers. I would trade him in the offseason if we could find an appropriate trading partner.
