So is this the offense we should expect?

Coming into this season. We knew that this offense had potential. But for what ever reason it was non existent the first two games. Was it a slow start, and the team is finally clicking? Or will this team fall next week and show the same polarizing games were used to seeing the last three years? Keep in mind this wasn't a bad team we faced " not great like the Seahawks" but not jaguar bad either. They didn't really give us the game with penalties or turn overs like the giants. We just sort of dominated them all 4 quarters. Just like in 2011. But that team was decimated by injuries.

What you guys think. Is it to early to start saying this will be the norm?

Fisher started the game with only 6 in the box. They didn't want to be gashed by the pass and practically dared Cowboys to run. Opportunities will be different every week.

Did anyone notice what part of the game he stopped playing like that. Eventually he had to stop the run if they wanted to win.

Too early for me. After 5 or 6 games I'll be able to make better assumption. Consistently inconsistent, and I can't trust them until I see week-in week-out performances like today. Running the ball well is the biggest key, and it goes without saying that in order for that to happen, the OL must be on point. I have had a few beers today, but I don't recall seeing any false starts on the Dallas side which is a very good thing. :)

I really thought the Romo-Dez connection would have a lot more stats at this point, but I can't really complain about that because I believe his double teams are leaving others open.

The offense is waking up but that's just part of the story. The other part is that we played a team that layed an egg this week while we played well on both sides of the ball. We'll require a bigger sampling before any accurate conclusions are likely to be made as to how our team is to be rated. How we play San Diego on the road should be a revealing experience. Our problems have come in putting wins together. That needs to change.

Obviously, we haven't stacked a lot of wins in a row in recent seasons. I think, though, it has more to do with us just being a fairly middling team during that time more than it had anything to do with being unable to win back-to-back. When every game is a close one, you're not going to have a lot of uninterrupted streaks, one way or another. We're a little deeper this year, and we're winning the turnover battles. Those extra possessions should add up to a couple more games, at least, all else being equal.
I thought we'd steal one in KC, though, so what do I know. If nothing else, SD will be another interesting test. It's a team that, on paper, looks comparable to ours. If we're going to get into the playoffs this season other than by the rest of the NFCE just giving it to us, we're going to need to beat teams like this on the road. This week is as good a time as any to start.

Giving the ball to Murray 25+ times in the run game and limiting Romos throws under 30 is never a bad idea!

Winning on the road after a resounding win would be a welcomed and fairly good indication to me that this team is beginning to turn things around insofar as breaking away from their former ways.

I think the KC game could have easily gone in our favor without a couple of absurd calls that went in their favor rather than ours. Unfortunately, we didn't play with the consistency it took to win but that could change.

Our defense looked fairly impressive, both on the OL and in the secondary vs. the Rams. If we can approach playing at that same level in San Diego, it might be the beginning of something we haven't seen in a long time. A consistent level of play on both sides of the ball would make a huge difference in our fortunes.

I think this is the way we need to try and establish our offense every week. We need to gain control of the LOS, we need to let Murray lean on the defense from the start. Obviously he's not gonna have games like this every week, and some games he won't break any decent runs till much later in the game but that's the way the run game works. There are games that teams will just rampant from the start, and others where you wear them down and you find success later in the game. Either way we need to get Murray started early, it makes us a much better team.

I agree, on all counts. Though, to be honest, we got some home-cookin' there today. Both on Dez's push off on the first touchdown, and on what I thought should have been a penalty on Hatcher for hitting a player (knocking him down, actually) in retaliation well after the whistle.

The offensive line has to be more consistent. If we block this well we probably won't lose to that many teams and are a SB contender. I don't see us blocking that well consistently but we need to be at least good in most games. The defense played overall it's best game in a long time.

IMO this was as much about being committed to the run as it was taking advantage of less men in the box initially. I really cannot recall ever thinking "we should have passed more" after a loss with the exception of the game against NE when we went 3 and out with 3 runs at the end of the game. The fact that THIS team seems to win more often than lose when we make a committment to run the ball tells me all I need to know. Unfortunately, our playcallers the last six years seem to lack the patience to stick with the run unless we are gashing people from the opening whistle, or unless we are coming off a loss where everyone from the owner on down is saying we need to run more. Will Murray go for 175? No, but like I said, history seems to say when we commit to the run, we win. I just don't know that we will continue in that vein now that we are coming off a win. I don't know about anyone else, but that's one of the things that is so frustrating - how many times will Garrett have to stand up after a game and say "we need to run more" before we decide to make it an integral part of what we do? It's been happening throughout his tenure as OC and HC which says to me either he's not smart enough to "get it" or he is more enamored with the pass. Somebody else can make that call, but ultimately, in answer to the OP question, I say "no" until we have shown the committment to the run for about five games.

After one solid game, I can't say that the offense is ready to take off...they played two games poorly, and one well...let's see if the arrow on the "good" meter points to the right against San Diego first
