So it is ok for the Colts...

It is remarkable how little you take away from most discussions.

Matched only in scope by how little you add.

Actually, I take ALOT from most dicussions...this being one of them! :D

Yes, we can. This is from Todd Archer's blog today.

The next Cowboys' coach?

I think we all believe Jason Garrett will be the Cowboys' head coach at some point.

With the Rooney Rule, I was wondering if the Cowboys could name Garrett their coach without interviewing a minority. According to the league, yes, the Cowboys can. The rule allows for a team to have a contractual arrangement with an assistant coach to be its next head coach. I'm not sure if that language is/was written into Garrett's new contract, but when he was asked last week if Jerry Jones talked about him being his next head coach, Garrett said, "No."

And there's this scenario: the Cowboys get off to a slow start in 2008 and Jones wants to make a change before it's too late in the season and names Garrett his guy. Not the interim coach, but the coach.

I think this was discussed with the Gregg Williams thing in Commanders land...

If I read it right, The Midget could name Williams the next coach without having to do the "Rooney Rule" thing....

Only if an arrangement is already in place. There's speculation of the same type of deal in place for Seattle with Jim Mora Jr.

IMO Garrett, Mora, Caldwell and Williams are all worthy coaches to take over and these kinds of deals would be smart.

Because Jerry is our GM.

JERRY! Can't you see how doomed we are?

Seriously, there's no difference.

The Rooney Rule refers to any minority candidate not just African-American ones.

Because he threatens to retire every year...:holmes:

And it has to be on file with the league office. You'd think some industrious reporter could find out if that is the case on some of these guys...

Why? Speculation is much easier and makes for a story when none exists. I doubt that any owner would go to that extreme for an assistant -- stupid to enter a binding contract with someone like that.

Tony Dungy is a lame duck, he will be looking over his shoulder, he is just a puppet now blah blah fart blah ZZZZZZZZZZ

Does anyone not notice the difference?

Tony is saying he has one more year. It's HIS choice to only have one more year. The Colts therefore are already naming his replacement.

Here in Dallas, it's rather obvious Jerry has Garrett next in line, but we have Wade as HC and I don't think Wade is wanting to go anywhere.

Hence, apples and oranges.

Yeah as an African American I'm still upset there has to be such a rule in place... I believe teams should hire the best guy for the job, regardless of color. The NFL and NBA have set the mark for coaching standards but it's time for Division 1A college football to catch up.
