I think we all believe Jason Garrett will be the Cowboys' head coach at some point.
With the Rooney Rule,
I was wondering if the Cowboys could name Garrett their coach without interviewing a minority. According to the league, yes, the Cowboys can. The rule allows for a team to have a contractual arrangement with an assistant coach to be its next head coach. I'm not sure if that language is/was written into Garrett's new contract, but when he was asked last week if Jerry Jones talked about him being his next head coach, Garrett said, "No."
And there's this scenario: the Cowboys get off to a slow start in 2008 and Jones wants to make a change before it's too late in the season and names Garrett his guy. Not the interim coach, but the coach.
