Martellus Bennett is blowing up with the Giants.

That’s not a good thing for the defending Super Bowl champions.

Giants tight ends coach Mike Pope told reporters that Bennett weighed in at 291 pounds last week. That’s a whopping 26 pounds higher than his listed weight.

“I think that is probably a little too big for his legs to carry,” Pope said.

Not coincidentally, Bennett isn’t participating in organized team activities because of a hamstring injury. That’s a heck of a way to make a first impression after signing a one-year, $2.5 million deal with a team desperate for tight ends after losing their top two players at the position to torn ACLs suffered in the Super Bowl.

Bennett was born a loser and will continue to be just that. I'm just sorry we wasted a draft pick and 4 years on this bum.

Wow.... He gained 26 lbs! I guess he likes the food in NY. He's only got a 1 year deal. He better get in shape fast.

Pretty much.

Handled a free pass to everything because he was big and athletic growing up.

The funny thing is, several Giants fans I know thought he was a star who was hiding behind Witten's shadow and would be a great player for them.

Nobody that I know has ever claimed Gnats fans to be very smart.

Bennett had a total of 846 receiving yards and four touchdowns in four seasons with the Cowboys, but he believes he’s capable of being a Pro Bowl tight end if he gets more opportunities
Holy moly.

Definitely some truth to that!! A lot of truth lol

Way to take care of showcasing your ability with those increased oppurtunities you've always said you needed.

Bennett is a prime example of why you should draft football players over athletes. He may be one of the main reasons for the change in drafting philosophy the team seems to have made recently.

yep. Classic case of an athlete to which football clearly is not really that important

What's funny is that his brother Michael has a breakout (albeit quite) season with the Bucs last year. Seems to be the more mature of the two.

He's a turd, I'll never forgive him for that handoff interception he gave Nnamdi last year. Glad he's gone, always running his mouth in the media & then blank on the stat line each week.

And a guy like Jimmy Graham shows why you still take chances on guys like that.

Sounds like he bulked up too much working out. That's the true sign of a turd.

For him to bulk up that much in such a short time sounds pretty sketchy? PEDs maybe?

So this begs the question what exactly did he do different in NY than here?

It was widely reported that he was one of the stronger guys in the weight room when he was here so much so that he worked out with the OL.

Whatever he did to "rock out" 30 more lbs. of muscle in a few months, I'm glad he didn't do it in our lockerroom and around our players.

I think it was clear to the staff that he had the potential to get up to that size -- that's probably where the comments about how he could move to OT came from.

These guys do get tested so if he was using steroids, you'd expect he'd get caught eventually.
