So much for Cowboys fighting hard

im being serious. running the ball doesnt seem to be something MM is overly interested in.
Big Mac has always been this way. He cut his coaching teeth on the idea that the pass sets up the run and always will. The running game to McCarthy is the step child of his offense and always will be.

They just need to get the Giants and Panthers on the schedule more often and they will get back to “fighting.”

The last couple of weeks have been quite typical. Very predictably over.

I know a lot of fans had been feeling good about how we’ve been playing these last few weeks winning 4 out of our last 5 heading to Philthy.

But the fight ran out. We looked more like the team we saw earlier this year with blowout losses to Detroit, New Orleans and Houston.

And this is probably closer to the team we currently are than the team we’ve been feeling good about. We also ran up against the best team we’ve faced since lucking out win against Washington.

It is what it is. And while it was welcoming to win a few games this loss actually is that reminder that changes are needed along with more talent influx.

Yes, injuries still are a major contributing factor but most insider analysts didn’t have this team healthy going to the playoffs probably struggling from 8-10 wins anyway. Vegas had us at 9 1/2 wins over/under . I took the under.
They arent good enough with all the injuries

The biggest problem is the terrible front office/GM that didnt do anything to help the team in the offseason they just gave up on the season before it started

Good post Greg. Several thoughts….

1. I am amazed at how low the bar is here in Dallas based on our players “not quitting”. That somehow impresses Jerry and Stephen. But being a professional athlete in my opinion means you never quit. That’s the minimum expectation. Sometimes “the lack of fight” we think we see is actually a lack of talent.
2. When you lack talent at multiple positions even when healthy, scheme and coaching are simply not enough to make you a serious contender for anything.

Like you said, injuries played a sizeable role in how this team performed this year. But even 100% healthy, IMO the Cowboys were not a playoff team.
Front office/ GM didnt add enough talent as other teams did everything they could to improve, our "GM" sailed off on his yacht

The play-calling and game management have been suspect for the 5 years MM has been here.

This team struggles to score early, they beat themselves with penalties, mistakes, and turnovers.

I cannot remember the last time I felt like we had an edge at offensive coaching/scheme.

A lack of talent is real as you point out. But this HC and OC has been mediocre for years and that weakness gets exploited on a regular basis

Yep, which we know isn’t what optimizes Dak’s effectiveness and ultimately our success, especially against the more elite teams.

So many embarrassing games this season. I'll never forget it.

You beat me to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This loss had absolutely zero to do w/ fighting hard or not.
Yea, initially they appeared to have some fight and then the turnovers buried them. Then we followed normal deflation of a bad team with nothing to play for.

I didn’t see much fight once we got down by 2 or 3 scores. We looked like the team in previous blowouts. Undermanned and totally out of sinc.

I actually thought they played pretty well earlier on…well, except for the pick six lol.

They were moving the ball well and the defense was at least somewhat inspired, but you could tell once they got down by two scores they mailed it in.

That’s a problem. This team completely quits once they are behind. Probably explains the number of blowouts.

All in all though, Philly is just monumentally better than Dallas is. Amazing what can potentially happen when the front office actually tries to get better.

I think the whole “players are quitting” / “players are still playing hard” stuff is a myth. These guys are professionals and most are smart enough to know that they are always playing for a job, either in Dallas or elsewhere. The exceptions are the guys like the dude in SF that legitimately quit. Not only do I think it’s a myth, I think it’s classic loser talk / empty “moral” victory nonsense. It’s a ruse to keep a guy like MM around that has proven he’s not an elite HC.

They sent a message the minute they shut down CeeDee, so what the team does from here on is expected.
They sent a smart message: We are not going to risk our best offensive player to further injury in games that will not help us make the playoffs. We have young receivers we need to see if they can play.

That's correct. But it also signals, we're done.
